Hi everyone. I just got back from MEPS MIAMI, and signed up for Hospital Corpsman as a Navy Reservist, I also qualified for the $20,000 bonus.

If anyone has some time, could you give me a brief rundown on what happens from Boot to my first duty station. My ship date is in late January.

I have a guaranteed NAT/HMFM "A" school slot. If there was anyway I could study for this ahead of time, let me know.

I also have an HM 8404 "C" school slot.

My duty station will be NMCRC Tampa, FL.

V/R,

Joshua Rys

Welcome Aboard:

Your adventure starts here at Recruit Training Command (http://www1.netc.navy.mil/nstc/rtcgl/index.html), RTC:

After graduating RTC, you will be attending Naval Hospital Corps School (http://navmedmpte.med.navy.mil/nhcs-gl/index.cfm) at Great Lakes, IL, right next door from RTC.

You will then be going to FMTB at either one of two locations:

FMTB East (http://www.lejeune.usmc.mil/fmtb/index.shtml), Camp Lejeune, North Carolina

FMTB West (http://www.cpp.usmc.mil/schools/fmtb/index.asp), Camp Pendleton, California

The FMTB East website has a lot more information and photos, regarding the various training evolutions the students experience. Note the Student Material link on the left side of the main page. Lot's of stuff you can either view or download now, regarding FMTB and it's training.

Our very best to you.

RysJG,
I congratulate you sir, but to tack on to what 8404 said..

8404 is not a "C" School. (Time to edumacate yourself now.)

8404 is what we term a "B" school. Yes you do earn a NEC for this school, but I earned a NEC 9502 as well for instructor and my instructor school was not a "C" school either.

I am in no means slamming you, I am just trying to educate you so you can help yourself and your juniors once your promoted with the right gouge.

Once again, congrats.. BTW I used to be the program mngr at NHCS for this program (NAT, and my replacement is still there.) so I can get you current info.

Congrats again..

If you do not already have an advance paygrade (E2, E3), then I recommend you get with your Recruiter to see what you need to do to earn it.

I assume your contract is already finalized so continued negotiation may be out of order, but I believe if you complete your DEP workbook and PQS then that might help you earn an early promotion.
