Hello HMs,

My real name is Jacqueline. Will be PCSing to NAS Norfolk 22/July/08.

I am here because I have a deep, sibling-like, affinity for HMs. There is nothing more refreshing than seeing an clean-cut, FMF Corpsman in his dungarees, while surrounded by sweaty, filthy green (Marines).

Two Corpsmen helped save my life while I was at Marine OCS, fall 2007. I collapsed from something called "rhabdomyolysis"... two pack-bearing, barefaced HM "Swabs" came to my aid. Thank you.

Note: If I could go back and change one thing in my life, I would have enlisted to become a Corpsman, first, used that GI Bill for college, and THEN applied for a commission in the Marine Corps.

You HMs are my heroes... and, thank G-d for your generous donations of Vitamin M.

'Rah!

J.

Ma'am..
Damn.

choked up..

You Marines do it to me every time.. Best time of my 24 I put in was with the Marines.. Hell I married a FMF Doc myself who I swear is a MARINE in disguise. Now she is a ICU Nurse.

Thanks Ma'am. I can tell you I just wish the Marines would do this for the doc's who they are serving with . That's not to say the Marines don't take care of us, they do.. But words like what you just wrote..

FRICKEN AWESOME!

;-)

Thanks again...

Please, no need to call me "ma'am"...
I was discharged (medical), but will be given a second chance to be in the DoD...

I can still hump (ruck, hike) and run, but my shoulder keeps me out of the Corps (a secondary injury). I am hoping to become a Navy Chaplain--definitely FMF.

Tuesday the 8th, is my interview with the seminary I hope to attend, so wish me luck. Perhaps it will be "Ensign" and "Chappie", one day!

I would like to post a speech that a Doc wrote for the Marine Corps Ball... Damn, talk about getting choked up.

Thank you for the warm welcome, BTW!

It's usually Padre, but I guess Madre would fit just as well

Well I wont wish ya luck, but I did say a prayer for you. I doubt you need the luck anyways. Hope to see you around in a few years. I realy like the Chaplin service we get out here. We have an Army Chaplin that makes sure he comes by our FLAS and entire command just to see how we are all doing!

That means a lot. Thank you.

So, who are you deployed with? Cherry point... are you with the legs or POGs?

Message me if you want, perhaps this is not the place to discuss where you are... I will look you up.

Again, thanks for the prayer.

One of the best Service members I was lucky to serve with, Father Maekawa, "LCDR" now I believe.

We had a Lightening strike on our gun line in the middle of the most god awful (Sorry Ma'adre") storms in a Artillery exercise in Mn.

I was the only Doc to take care of 27 Marines who were struck by the bolt. I was the only one who could get there. Chaplain Maekawa became my Junior Doc as I triaged my Marines for evac.

When we were done and after everyone was taken care of. (We didn't lose anyone thank God) Father Maekawa went up to the COL. of the 14 MARINE Regiment, and told him that he wanted to write me up for a award. The Col's Response..

"Don't, Doc was doing his job, this is what he gets paid for".

Boy Then LT was torqued.. he came to me and told me..

My Repsonse...

The Col. was right. It is my job.

The Chaplains response..

You are in a tough rate..

:-)

I agree.. Wouldn't change a thing. And I had the best LT Junior Doc to help me out during that S-Storm.

Uh-Rah Chaplains!

That story is SOOOO motivating (moto), Chief.

You know, I was the Corpsman's aid at Marine OCS. I was called "the witch doctor"... (hahaha). I absolutely LOVED that billet! I was butt-tired all the time--woke up earliest and hit the rack the latest. But it was extremely rewarding to know I was helping my platoon out.

Back in undergrad, I was pre-med, then had to drop out for a year, due to a bone tumor in my right (distal) femur. I loved the science of the body, but through mentally enduring my own stint with severe physical pain, I also grew to love counseling (I finished school in counseling).
After the Corps, I know I still love Marines, but perhaps I can serve in a new, less-restricted capacity. I see this as an opportunity to serve as a morale/encouraging/spiritual "doc" of sorts. After going green, I'll always be rough around the edges. I hope I get FMF.

Does anyone here know about how officers can get FMF duty, and also, how one earns the FMF EGA?

Until then, I know it's going to be fun being the "madre" who could pass as someone's daughter or little sister... *sarcastic rolling of eyes* ;)

P.S. I'm lovin' this site.

I believe the OPNAV Instruction, I referenced, contains what they need to study. We do not have the actual test or PQS online here.

Ma'am,
8404 is right we would not have test stuff on here.. (This is not to say i don't know folks who have access, but we don't dare put it out.)

There is a reasons for Tests and Boards, all are valid. I can say without a doubt that the one warfare prgram that does not put personal feelings above the warfare device.. I.e some other warfare programs out there you could earn at a barstool (AW back in the day), which really frosted my buns as I was out on top of my birds learning every square inch of them as well as getting ready for my boards.

The FMF program of course is run by the Marine Corps which values "HONOR COURAGE AND COMMITTMENT" above all else.

2 of my folks did not earn thier device out of our 8 who initially went up for it. But they both understood and both of them made in the next go round. (1 HM and 1 RP) They understood how much it meant when we had Muster and they were presented with them during BN Muster and called out in front of all of us HM's as well as all the Marines.

Awesome and powerful feeling.

Uhh-Rah Everyone!!

Happy Monday..

I had better see "BLEEP-Holes" and "ELBOWS" time to get back to work!!

:-)

Chief,
I understand, fully.
Any EGA bearing device, SHOULD be earned. The fraternal bonds of the Corps are earned through literal, blood, sweat and (occasionally) tears. Sailors should be held to similar standards. Then, be trusted to uphold the Corps values of Honor, Courage and Commitment.

I don't imagine prior Marines get to wear the EGA on a Naval uniform--even if they are going FMF. New branch, new devices to earn, right? (any answers?)

So, after one earns the FMF device, as I was reading on that link, does that person now have to do (revert to) PFTs for physical fitness evals, or, as a Sailor, would he/she still do the PRT?

P.S. If this discussion belongs on another thread, I will repost there... thanks for the heads up.

Thank you, and Happy Monday, right back at you!
