This question goes out to instructors at NHCS. How often does a class of students begin is it monthly weekly ???

Also is there anything you could provide me as far as a day to day schedule? I have seen a schedule but it was from 2006 and I have a feeling that it's been edited since.

Thanks and Best Regards

It generally is whenever they get enough people... I remember waiting what felt like forever to class up. Don't worry though, Great Lakes is an awesome place and there is a lot of stuff to do to keep you occupied.

Yep, such as sweepers, field days, studying and standing watches! There isn't nothing quite like it.

I remember having to report NLT the day before Thanksgiving, then spending about a week or two of standing watches, working parties, etc before classing up. It wasn't very long and they had no problems finding stuff for us to do.:not:

It's nice to know that I won't need to worry about boredom. Let's see my leave date for boot is 24 Sept ... Looks like I'll be picking up the triple "S"

Tom;

You'll be there just in time to experience the very best weather that Great Lakes, IL can offer. :D

I reported to boot camp in Great Lakes in August, into A School in November and did not leave the area until February. I remember one day when walking to the hospital, the wind chill was something like 60° below

I went to boot on the tail-end of Winter. Got to experiance all the lovely snow and high wind that Chicago had to offer.

Left Corps School at the beginning of Spring AKA my GOD why dont these barracks come with A/C? lol.

Good times, only got called out to sweepers twice, thank god.

The booters just getting here and the fleet returnies have generally only been waiting around one to two weeks, but the wait time fluctuates, one of my friends was in NMT for two months before he classed up. They daily schedule for NHCS is: 0645 muster in class/ begin(if u have duty that day you will muster at 0615 with your duty section to do sweepers), ?1030?-?1300? chow, 1530-1600 get out of class(you will generally pt sometime throughout the day around three times a week), tues & thurs NMT(team-building, pt, mentoring etc.), if u have duty muster at 1615 and you'll either do sweepers on school house, fog walk down or just chill, if you dont have duty, you just chill in your room....., 1800 LIBERTY CALL LIBERTY CALL!!! (unless you have duty than you muster for sweepers at 1945) We have phases here, phase 1 is no civies on weekdays, 2145 curfew everyday, civies on weekends. Phase 2 is civies on weekdays during liberty, 2145 curfew on weekdays and 2345 curfew on weekends and Phase 3 is civies on weekdays 2145 curfew on weekdays and all night liberty on weekends, generally takes two weeks to get to phase two from the day you get here, and three weeks to phase three from the day you get phase two.

So what I gather from this is that the wait time for NHCS varies. Goooood to know! Also, do they have A/C in the barracks during NHCS?

This will be exciting. I've lived in Arizona and Florida my whole life and the most snow I've ever seen was just a bit past my ankle. I ship for boot mid May and will be there for at least the begining of the winter months. [at least that's the begining of winter from where I'm from.]

Alaska!?!?! Start off slow and go to Washington state, or Maine...at least they have some warmer climates mixed in there too. Straight to Alaska...burrr. Gotta thicken the blood up first.

You might be lucky to get 205 A/C... two windows opened with a five mile an hour breeze off of the lake with 100 plus percent humidity!

I was in boot camp and there were a couple of people in my company that had never seen snow before. We had a slight dusting of snow that year, late October/early November.

Coming from the mid-west, I found that amazing that one had never "experienced" snow before. I told them to wait until Christmas. I came back to Great Lakes at Thanksgiving and stayed there until February. It was mighty chilly, and windy. I was glad I left there and went to Camp Pendleton next.

How many is "enough people"? My son is in GL now on hold for A school. Just wondering what a class size is or is there such a thing?

My class size in 1997 started at sixty six with only six females. It was down to just over forty when we graduated. I am sure the current instructors or senior members will chime in.

Average class size is between 55 and 65 students. There is a required curriculum that they must cover prior to classing up.

Nice!!! From what I saw at RTC they are literally (THROWING) HM at undesignated recruits. :nah:I don't want to be a jerk but some of the individuals have some low AFQT scores and even lower composite scores. It's easy to wonder why.

Am I wrong??

NHCS is only one of the first steps in filtering out who should be a Corpsman. FMTB will attrite some, and so on.
