Questions have been raised (http://www.broadcastingcable.com/article/CA6577943.html) about the choice that the Federal Trade Commission recently made to reformat a press release about the upcoming DTV transition (http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/94136) so that it could be released as a news article. The press release was originally posted as a consumer news alert on the FTC website. It was then pushed to nationwide community newspapers to be printed as a story with no indication that the release came from the FTC. The FTC maintains that there is nothing wrong with this practice but journalists have expressed concerns about the ethics of this when coming from an organization that has a responsibility to be cracking down on deceptive advertising.
