On the heels of another traditionally dismal showing in yearly consumer satisfaction polls (http://www.corpsman.com/shownews/94611) and the NebuAD PR disaster (during which they tried to convince the public that selling user browsing data was as good as offering them faster speeds (http://www.corpsman.com/shownews/94466)), Charter has unveiled a new "Live It with Charter" promotion supposedly aimed at getting on their customers' good sides. The new program doles out points to customers who pay more per month for bundled services. Those points can then be traded in for "special perks."

According to the program website (https://www.liveitwithcharter.com/progfaq.jspx), once you sign up you'll get between ten and fifteen "Live It" points for every $1 you spend on your monthly Charter bill. Then once every quarter, Charter will open up their "Charter store," where you can buy everything from "branded clothing and accessories to popular electronics items such as iPods," according to the company.

Now I'm grumpy and cynical, but I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that a credit-card rewards style program isn't going to help cure network congestion or fix customer service -- though it may differentiate the company in markets where customers enjoy gimmicks. I can't help but wonder how many "Live it points" were earned by the guy who recently decided to pay $71,540 (http://www.corpsman.com/shownews/93016) for a "lifetime" * (http://connect.charter.com/forlife/contestRules.htm) of Charter broadband service.
