Pretty good flick! A couple nice twists in it and several messages for the audience to catch. I'd like to say more but I do not want to provide any spoilers.
The theature I went to dedicated the 4 largest screens (& I think a couple smaller ones) for the midnight showing and the place was packed. Judging by the crowds afterwards, it seems like everybody liked it. Definitely a summer for comic book movies.

I saw it on a midnight showing and it is full of action and foreshadowing.
I think there should have been a different ending for one character to continue
on in another movie.
Beware that it runs two and a half hours but a really good movie.
I hear that, i wont spoil it, but Ill say they missed a golden opportunity for a 3rd installment there...
But it was a great flick, the wife and I wanna see it again

But that would have made the character an absolute villain which would be contrary to several messages. I also think it would have been too much of a Hollywood cliche and extremely predictable to go with that story line. The death was better because it brightens the public hope and yet feeds the private anguish which is Batman.
There is no loss of a "3rd installment" because Batman's shift alone is more than enough for another sequel, not to mention all the other characters with questions to be addressed...
Hopefully not the penguin....

Just remember the quote that character said during his dinner scene with our hero out of cowl and armor... missed opportunities have a way of coming back to bite you in the a$$....
My wife and I have been reluctant to see this one, as the last one seemed a little slow at first. I am trying not to see it just because of all of the hype surrounding the death of Heath whatever his last name is. I guess I will try and see it this weekend.

Doc_D...
Go see it.. Just make sure you go potty prior to seeing it.. ;-) It's over 2 1/2 hours long, you will "NOT" be bored with this movie.. from Minute "1" it kicks off it is "NEVER" boring..
Also PM me after you see it. WOW! Heath Ledger, his performance.. It's a shame he's gone as he should win the OSCAR.

This could start a new thread:
Who was better at being crazy?
Jack Nicholson or Heath Ledger
Heath Ledger, hands down.
Jack Nicolson was funny crazy...he made me laugh with his antics
But Heath Ledger, wow...made me uncomfortable.
Crazy Uncomforting...thats the winning combo

I agree.. he was a Criminal without a conscious.. He believed in absolute anarchy..
Heath did a great job.

Aaah, but don't you like that the criminal had more of a conscience than the cops, soldier, or members of the general public...?
As for Nicholson v Ledger, I think it is a completely different character role and cannot be compared fairly. There has been a drastic shift from "comic book" for kids to "graphic novel" for adults. A transition from the corny & campy TV series to the dark tormented anguish of this year's Dark Knight
The Batman vs Batman vs Caped Crusader vs The Dark Night
Lewis Wilson, Robert Lowery, Adam West, Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Christian Bale...
I would argue that Adam West was the last old school comic book Batman and Michael Keaton was the first taste of the Dark Knight. But even Keaton's character role was different than Bale's. Afterall, he was still battling villains basically from the comic books while Bale's villians are definitely a product of the graphic novel.
It is true that Keaton was the first of the more "adult" Batmans, but George Clooney and Vil Kilmer was successful in bring the series back to its goofy roots.
I believe that Christian Bale's batman was the first DARK knight. I mean, when Commisioner (I clapped for him when he got his pin, lol) Gordon compared the Dark Knight to the White Knight, I finally got it.
This "Dark Knight" was INDEED a dark knight.

If anyone's read "The Dark Knight Returns" by Frank Miller (of 300, Sin City fame), then I think the third installment should follow that Graphic Novel. It wouldn't require the reintroduction of any new villian's, and it picks up where the Movie left off.
