So I signed up 20080713 for the HM rating. MAN! Am I excited.
So I have a few questions...
Now as a HM I know I might go to FMTB and by GOD I hope I do! lol
BUT!
Lets say I'm deployed with Marines and such, will I have time to get my online college done? I heard that whatever you are you have a "job". So I guess they explained it as lets say a 7-5 job and you can do whatever you want when you are off duty. Is this true? Sounds like it.
Regardless how often do you hear of HM's getting their Bachelor's while they are in?
Next question lol
Who is shipping out for 20081202? Who is going out of MEPS San Diego?
Last question...I think
I'm in DEP for a while, I'm glad its a good thing. PQS rocks I already know the alphabet, the sailor's creed is easy to remember and very deep imo, but the 11 General Orders are kicking my ass lol study study right? lol
In PQS to get your advancement it says to complete the objectives...
one of the objectives is provide a referral to your recruiter. Now does this mean they have to enlist? Cause it says for the rank to e-2 and e-3 they have to enlist.
And a few more questions lol
Any ideas on how to get new enlistees? I'm thinking of asking my recruiter if I could "help" him out at the office to gain referrals. ( kind of like hey can i do this, talk about this, and if they sign you put them down under my name kind of thing)
What have other people done to get those 4 people or 2 NUKES.
Someone said just ask him to put 4 people down under your name and be all buddy buddy with him. (even tho i'm pretty sure he sees me as just a number lol)
So yeah that is it for now.
WOOT first post of a million questions!

If you are 'deployed', the Corpsman job is MUCH more than a 7-5 job! It can be a 24 hour job!
When you are not deployed, the Navy highly encourages it's Sailors to further their education, which would include a college degree. Many Sailors in the Navy have completed their Bachelors and Masters degrees during their enlistments.

I believe you are getting two programs mixed up. Completing the DEP-PQS booklet alone and having it signed off by your Recruiter, gains you E-2!
Separately from the DEP-PQS: "When two people you refer enlist in the Navy, you will be advanced to E-2. When four people you refer enlist in the Navy, you will be advanced to E-3". (Source: DEP-PQS Page 14).
You can also view and/or download the Navy DEP-PQS booklet from our site, at: http://www.corpsman.com/recruiting-info/delayed-entry-program-dep-success-accelerator/

Refer to the DEP-PQS booklet, page 14, it specifically gives you some great ideas on how to do this!
It is a great idea, to spend some time helping out at your Recruiters office. However, you must EARN those referrals. Don't look at trying to 'get over' or get something for nothing. That is a terrible way to begin your career and/or live your life! That's why we call it 'work'!
TIP: As far as your 11 General Orders, take one and only one and study that. Memorize it, repeat it to yourself over and over. Then for one week, whenever you are reminded about the PQS or the Navy, recite that General Order. Once you've memorized one, take another one. Repeat the above and recite both of them in order and out of order.
Remember: It is important that you keep in close touch with your Navy Recruiter while in DEP status and adhere to the schedule of meetings you have agreed to. Even though you will find a lot of the answers to your questions here in this Guide, your Recruiter is the single best source for information and answers.
Also, you're responsibilities to your Recruiter:
1. Maintain my eligibility for the Navy.
2. Attend and participate in all DEP meetings.
3. Maintain or improve my physical fitness standards.
4. Notify my Recruiter immediately if my eligibility
status changes (injuries, traffic tickets, other police
involvement, marital status, dependents, educational
status, etc.)
5. Complete all courses in a timely manner.
6. Uphold the Naval Tradition of “I can and I will.”
Our very best to you and Welcome Aboard.

Welcome and congratulations on your decision to become a United States Sailor and picking the best rate the Navy has to offer!
11 general orders- I was taught this by a Marine recruiter before I left for boot camp. the second word in each one turns into something alot easier to remember.
1-take
2-walk
3-report
4-repeat
5-quit
6-receive, obey, and pass on
7- talk
8- give
9- call
10- salute
11- Be especially watchful
the first 5 are like a little jingle, the rest you will have to remember.

to get e-2 from the dep pqs you will also have to pass a test once you get to boot, youll take it in the first few days, maybe even the first day, and youll need to pass your initial pfa at boot.........
One thing to remember once you get to your initial duty station following your training. The Navy offers T.A. or Tuition Assistance. It's free money to pay for your college education. I told all my sailors, that if they did not use all thier TA each year, they were throwing money away. Use TA while on active duty, and save the GI Bill for after you get out or retire.
Good Luck!

School time is going to depend on what duty station you get:
A smallboy ship may give you courses while at sea (PACE) but has duty every other day or three days while in port.
Larger ships or naval shore command may be every four or five.
Marine units will have duty such as a branch medical clinic or hospital if not with your individual unit.
Junior college classes are now available online and in most communities near the bases.
You also may be able to work for some civilian hospitals if you get specialized training after hours for additional OJT. (ER Techs)
