You just gotta wonder. The class graduated on December 15, with 14 days of leave. With travel, that means they report to their new duty stations on Saturday, December 30. Just guess how many duty stations are prepared to receive new sailors in the middle of a holiday weekend? The tales from my son and his friends who graduated are a hoot. My son, a newly minted HR checked into the naval hospital at Camp Lejeune, only to find that there is no room in the Corpsman barracks. For now, he is occupying a room in the hospital, waiting for the next FMSS class to move out so he can move in next week. He can't get a meal ticket until at least Tuesday, because all the offices are closed. He's only hoping they're not charging him for his meals in the hospital. Same for most of his friends, from North Carolina to Pensacola, Camp Pendleton to Bremerton. Another great story to tell in the future. Out of school, into the fire, and it's crazy good. ;)
