I will be getting to A School around the second week of December or so. My question is, Is there a leave period for Christmas and if so will I be able to come home..eta I live in Mississippi
Yes, you will be allowed to go on leave, providing you have leave on the books. NHCS closes for a period of time during the month of December and students are encouraged to take leave. Although, you must report in first!
If you don't go on leave, expect work parties, duty watches etc.

You might kind of be S.O.L. due to the time frame for running a request chit for leave through your new COC (deadline was when?) to give them the time to verify your number of days available) plus the number of people who have had the chance to request it before you.
Hope I made sense.
Doh.....it makes sense to me and you may be right!

If I remember correctly, at least the time I was there, they let those who chose leave to go into a negative balance on the books. I remember taking leave, and I couldn't have had too much time on the books. It's been a long time though. I also took a few days after HCS before I reported to Camp Pendleton.

Here is the deal..
You will be able to take leave.. Usually it is what you have on the books +5... Now the part your not going to like..
When your done with School when most folks take leave.. you won't be able to. You are already in the hole. So plan accordingly.. Take it at X-mas or take it when your done with A-School.
After being staff there I can tell you this.. (And I learned it @ NAS DALLAS as well, my first duty station)
Staying in the Barracks for X-mas truly, Truly, TRULY SUCKS!! Your standing watch every day or every other day. Any work needs to be done to the building!?? Guess what your a captive Audience..
:-)
As the old man told Indy....
"Choose Wisely"...
Good Luck

Nope not correct..
Here you go Shipmate (Soon to be anyways..)
Here is the breakdown..
The day you enter boot, you start earning Leave.. the Break down is this..
2.5 days per month..
Boot usually takes around 3 months.. hence you would have 7.5 days on the books.
+ 5 more you can take which would put you at 12 days of leave. this would put you -4.5 in the hole though till you earned it back.
Now seeing as you will be in Corps School about 2 weeks before X-mas.. which is say Dec 12th or so.. Chances are you won't even enter the curriculum before The break due to the "PRE" stuff you have to do. So Once you get back.. you class up.. School is approximately 14 weeks or so.. (This is Curriculum I am talking about) after 8 weeks you have gotten out of the negative.. Which leaves you 6 more weeks, which puts you at around 2.5 days in the bank Positive..
Now you see what I am talking about .. I would "NOT" Advise taking leave after Corps School if you take X-mas leave or you will drop back down.. the most you can take after though is 5 days..
Most want to take Their leave after FMTB, or a C-school if you get it..
UNLESS...
Your going over seas right out of Corps School..
Just keep in touch with us here as your going through, we can direct you to the right folks so you make the best decision..
Good Luck!!

Remember that trying to get a plane ticket during that time on short notice will be expensive and a big pain in the a$$.... that flight from Ohare to Birmingham or Jackson is a minimum of three hours.. not sure about the drive but figure gas at $4.00 a gallon.

Chief,
When I went to boot it was only 2 months, almost to the day. I graduated on the first of December with 5 leave days. I took 11 days of leave for the holiday break. Graduated Corps school on the 16th of March. Then I took 5 days of leave. Went to Feild Med, Graduated, straight to Oki. That was with a different CO though, so things have probably changed.

I was wondering if you can get leave after bootcamp if your A School doesn't start right after?

The answer to that is usually after boot camp graduation they load you onto buses and take you across the street since your school orders were cut while you are in boot. Most of the people in the division go over at the same time. Those who don't have orders or have other "issues" go to THU.
Ultimately it will depend on your A school, but the orders to all schools are written in a way to minimize downtime between Boot Camp and your next training duty station. You may have a couple of days with liberty such as the weekend before you travel, or you may travel the day after graduation (known as grad'n'go) but usually there is no leave authorized between graduation from Boot Camp, and reporting to A school.

I got here last Friday and we just finished money management and liberty call. I still haven't heard anything about x-mas leave. Any ideas about when we'll be informed?

Someone has not been explained the meaning of "hurry up and wait" or "Needs of the Navy".
In other words, when they feel you need to know, they will tell you. Then they give you five minutes to make the decision of if you are going or not (hence the "hurry up, we're waiting").

Oh I'm well versed in hurry up in wait. I was just wondering if I was missing some big secret.

My guess is that Xmas leave will probably be discussed in your indoc when you class up and you are given your class schedule.
