Hello everyone I am new to corspman.com and also retired at the age of 25. I was a FMF doc who got hit by an IED near Fallujah Iraq in 05. So my gripe, finally congress passes a bill to allow us vets who have less than 20 years to recieve both our VA comp and our ret pay from the gov. The only prob with it is it may not be worth the headache to pursue. On top of the mound of paper work and the months long waiting period, if a person like myself who was only in 4 years until i got hit is now retired I may only recieve a hundred more bucks(if I'm lucky) than my original 800 and something Mil ret pay, until my va comp went dollar for dollar and took it away. I had a great carreer and was going places. Now I have one leg among other things and between battling the VA for anything and everything, getting on PDRL, and school for a new carreer, all I gotta say is GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!! It's not my fault I couldnt go 20 years to retirement and recieve both full amounts.

New Service Announced for Wounded Warriors, Families and Caregivers (http://www.defenselink.mil/releases/release.aspx?releaseid=12190)
Mon, 08 Sep 2008 16:05:00 -0500
IMMEDIATE RELEASE No. 752-08
September 08, 2008 New Service Announced for Wounded Warriors, Families and Caregivers
DoD announced today that the Military OneSource service has established a Wounded Warrior Resource Center telephone number and e-mail address for service members and their families, if they have concerns or other difficulties during their recovery process.
Service members and their family members can now call (800) 342-9647 or e-mail wwrc@militaryonesource.com (http://www.corpsman.com/do/mail/message/mailto?to=wwrc%40militaryonesource.com) 24/7 to request support. Assistance provided by the resource center will not replace the specialized wounded warrior programs established by each of the military services, but it will offer another avenue of assistance for military facilities, health care services, and/or benefits information.
"The department is committed to aggressively addressing the needs of our service members and their families," said Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates.
Specially trained consultants will ensure consistent, quality customer-centric support. The consultants will identify the appropriate "warm hand-off" to either a military service or federal agency with authority to resolve the matter. The resource center consultant will maintain communication with the caller until the issue or concern is resolved.
"The term 'wounded warrior' encompasses the entire population of wounded, ill and injured service members and veterans," said Principal Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness Michael L. Dominguez.
The Wounded Warrior Resource Center meets the requirements of Section 1616 of the "National Defense Authorization Act Fiscal Year 2008" for a centralized number and ensures wounded families and caregivers have a number to call at any time.

Nah.. Once Source won't as he is already retired.. Here is the deal..
We who are disabled.. (I am 80%) don't get to draw both Retired pay as well as Disability.. together at 100%.. Right now.. let me check real quick..
What I need to know is what Rate he got for Disability.. There is a lot to go on for this info.. If you want to read on it. Look here..:
http://www.military.com/benefits/military-pay/retired-pay/crdp-pay-computation
But we "WILL" help this shipmate out.. the thing to remember, your not in the military any more so We are going to "BITCH" to the highest levels to get you taken care of..
;-)
Worked for me..
But seriously it took me i think around 90 days or 120 days till everything worked out..
I would suggest in the meantime.. go to your local DAV office ASAP.. get a case worker to help you out.. Also please go to your local VFW as well as the American Legion.. Time to wear the funny hats... Because the funny hat brigade has a large voice in these matters..
I am PM Me and I will send you my phone number.. Look, If you "EVER" need to talk because your frustrated.. call me day or night doesn't matter..
You did your job, now it is time for me to do mine, as well as our staff here..
Remember though as well.. your not the only one going through this.. And because of this it does take a little bit of time.
Chin up bro..

Chief I know you are helping me out...and I really appreciate it!!! Just wanted to bring up the comment on CRSC and how the computations are kinda bull for younger guys.My crsc is still going through the grinder of being evaluated. I am 60% as of now disabled and still fighting for a higher percentage(all or should be combat related). Between school, VA, and everything else I'm taking all the probs one step at a time. As for the DD214 my scanner crapped the bed so I'll find another way of getting it to you. Thanks for the info
Da-Chief;
Is that VA disability or SSN disability you are speaking of that you cannot collect both? Just wanted to clarify.

All depends on his final rating..
Shipmate.. the rating you receive from the Navy is not the same you will receive from the VA.. Trust me.. Call in tomorow night or give us your info.. We will call you.. PM me it though, don't put it on here..
Also Please Copy 8404 on the PM.. We will get you hooked up..

As a student google Student Veterans Association for the local chapter closest to you. They may be able to help as well.
Like Darrell says, it does take time and you deserve it more than I do, so... keep plugging. I got 10% and though I could have gotten more, I felt it wrong to persue since really there's not much wrong with me. I rather see you get it! I didn't want to jam the system with another re request.
