..my contract sais im going to be a "Hospital corpsman (FMF) HMFM" and that i am to attend a Hm 8404 c school after A school...
To better understand your enlistment contract: Having Corpsman on your contract does not mean you will be one. What it does mean, is that you are guaranteed a seat at the Corpsman 'A' school. Another wards you have to successfully complete all course work and graduate!
I add this, because I came across some parents who felt because it was in there son's contract, their son was guaranteed being a Corpsman and how can the Navy dis-enroll a student if it was in their son's contract!
HM-8404 is a Navy enlistment classification code or NEC and not a 'C' school although some Recruiters commonly refer to it as one. To obtain this NEC, one must attend and graduate FMTB (http://www.lejeune.usmc.mil/fmtb/index.shtml).
Obtaining FMTB (http://www.lejeune.usmc.mil/fmtb/index.shtml) in your contract, tells me you are a Reservist.
...my only question is does this mean i am going to be a field medic.
It is probable, but not guaranteed. However, due to the nature we find ourselves, (at war) the need for Corpsman with the Marines is great. But, like most things in the military, one has to remain flexible and everything is based upon the needs of the Navy. Those needs can change weekly!
thanks for the feed back 8404 i appreciate you taking the time to answer. but i have done a little more reserch and the unit they have put me with is a marine unit in indy i asked my recruiter and said he had no idea but he will look in it for me. i have no doubt that he will come up with an answer sooner or later . he has done alot for me just getting me in ( alot more than i ever thought a recruiter would do. i know my army recruiter wouldnt of done it.) but i did sign up to go to war i didnt sign for benefits it boils my blood when friends and strangers go off for their third and fourth tour. 2 great friends i had in the service both got purple hearts in iraq and are both going back over. so i want to do my part and i know i would be doing my part if i was stationed on a boat or at a hospital but its just not the same. i guess the best way to secure a spot as a field medic is just go up my chain of comand im sure they wont tell me no and especially if i volenteer to get deployed
So you already know you are being attached to a Marine unit in Indy. Cool, then rest assured Reserves are on a Deployment rotation and your turn will more in likely come up. You can also volunteer for Individual Augmentee (IA) deployments, whereas you augment another unit's billet for needed Corpsman. I believe you would need to be released from your current unit though.
Thank you for your service.
well i know i would rather be deployed with my unit because i heard alot of horror stories from those who were deployed with other units. Another question does active duty treat reservists that are activated any different i know in the army the reservists were not appreciated by many of the active duty guys.
