I am in the market for a new laptop - my "dinosaur" is about 5 years old. I have read a few opinions about Mac versus windows based platforms - does anyone have any experience with Windows Vista or the new Macbook?

I'm using Vista at home on a Desktop, if you do go this route, make sure you get at least 2 gigs of RAM onboard. I would also suggest getting a "DUAL CORE" machine, runs cooler and faster.

The MAC's are nice as well, a bit pricer and really well built machine. You can run both MAC Software as well as Vista on it with some tweaking. You can't do this on a Win machine.

One of our users on here has a APPLE laptop and loves it, I give him crap but really am a bit envious..

;-)

More software on the WIN side of the house then MAC etc.. Either way it is a big upgrade.

Let me know what you decide, might be able to help ya out.

I think the thing is most appealing about the Mac is the plug and play capability...... from what i have read, there is a reare need to download drivers to operate peripheral equipment. This aspect appeals to me.

On the Windows side - I liek the idea of being wiht the majority, although software confilcts bug me - I heard the conflict issues occur less often with Vista.......tough decision to make.

Thanks for the feedback man.

immer_zuverlassig, I've been using Windows-based PC's and Laptops all of my life, and just recently switched to having a Mac OS computer; and honestly, I fell in love with it after only 5 minutes of using it.

It takes some getting used to, but it truly is an amazing operating system because of so much you can do.

I tried the new Win OS, Vista, and I'm just not digging it as much as everyone else is. Vista to me just feels like a whole new OS that is too "oops proof." What I mean by that is that when I used my friends Laptop that ran Vista on it, it just seemed like it was asking too many questions like, "are you sure you want to do this?"

Also if you're a gamer or like programs that are considerably old, from what I've heard, Vista isn't compatible with many old games and programs that ran on previous OS's (XP, 2k, 98, etc.)

Mac is also actually releasing their new OS pretty soon and the name if it is Leopard or something like that. It's going to be really exciting. Here's the link to it if you want to read about it. http://www.apple.com/macosx/leopard/

The same with Da Chief and I, if you need any help with anything, just say the word.

Hey all, im a net work admin at a church in Marysville wa, and we run windows based but i personally have a MacBookPro and have absolutely loved it I have used Vista a little bit but as it was earlier described it is ops proof, which for many of us is more of a hendrances and a pain in the rear than an assurance or help, and as far as there being windows software that you cant run on mac, as someone mentioned you can run windows on any of the the new intel based MacBooks and it is quite slick, works well. but there is an equivalent to most programs for mac or the same ones are being made compatable.... other than games... that is the only complaint that i have heard from my gaming friends about the Macs... not all thier games work.

<--- MacBookPro

I use Windows on my Mac for games. Other than that I use my MacOS for EVERYTHING else. If you like your MS Office stuff, its available on MAC too.
