I am most likely going to leave Bank of America very soon because my free student account is about to expire hehe

I was thinking of doing Navy Federal because for one its NAVY and two i haven't read or heard that much bad stuff about it...

My fiance's bro went through some Armed Services or something...

Anyways, what do you guys suggest?

In reality I am just looking for a good bank to put my money into and have wide access to ATM's/withdrawals anywhere that I am deployed (i think navy federal offered all of that)

Fees...gonna happen

But who isn't gonna "nickel and dime me" hehe

Thank you!

I have had many bank accounts with various branches. NFCU is great..as long as you are near a Navy base. They don't nickel and dime like other banks do. I also have Chase bank. I hate that they charge to transfer money, to get cashier's checks, etc. NFCU is great...but like I said they are only near Navy bases...not so much around joint commands. If you go overseas I would recommend NFCU because at the Navy bases that is the only bank they have so you can use the ATMs with no fees.

yeah I have heard a lot of good things about them...

i figure i should rely on them especially if i'm going to be in the Navy and hopefully 85% of the time on a navy base

i like the fact that they are all over the world (wherever the Navy goes)

thanks for the insight

No problem. They also have really good rates on loans and stuff. Our problem with them was once we were no longer at a Navy base or went home on leave there wasn't one anywhere close. I will probably have an allotment going to one account and the rest go to NFCU when I go in just so if I do go home or anything I still have access to another bank account without getting fees. You don't have to close the Bank of America one yet, they have free checking if you have direct deposit.

I bank with Navy Fed and I like them a lot. I wouldn't recommend putting money into their savings accounts because they have really low interest rates. For savings I put my money into an ING account and have been happy with their service. One nice thing about Navy Fed is that they will reimburse you up to $10 per month for withdrawal fees. One thing that kinda sucked was when you graduate boot (where most people sign up for Navy Fed) and go to corps school, the only Navy Fed bank is on main side and all of the ATM's are Armed Forces. After all the hype in boot I get to a large Navy training base and it was all Armed Forces, I was disappointed. Now that I am overseas I really like their services and they haven't let me down yet. Their loan rates are a little high, but I decided I really wanted to establish good credit with a bank so I took out a small 6 month loan, set up the auto payment on it and paid it off without ever having to worry about it. Then I took out a 2 year loan for a much larger amount and my interest rate had dropped a full point. It will be interesting to see what interest rate the offer me on my next loan, seeing that I will have paid off a 2 year loan with no disputes. Best of luck.

I haven't heard much on Navy Fed, but most of my friends like USSA I haven't heard anything bad about them. They also have their car insurance through them and are very pleased so far.

Does NCF have free online banking? Like you can check your accounts anytime anywhere without a phone if you wanted to

I currently Bank at TD Bank. I don't know where/or if they are even located in every state. The one awesome incentive about their checking accounts is the "No ATM Fees." I can go to any ATM, anywhere, take money out and the ATM Fee is given back to you by the bank. I don't know how instant it is but every month you see the deposit of atm fees on your statement.

I still have an account with NFCU (gathering an minimal interest) that I never really closed. I am getting a statement from them every month. I really should close it, but it is one of things I've never gotten around to it. Had the account since 1985 when I was in the Virginia Tidewater area.

No complaints, financed a couple of my vehicles through them.

I was able to use a NFCU card overseas in different places on a six month westpac. The ship and overseas command readily take their checks in disbursing.
