I will be writing letters when I am able and I'm leaving someone in charge to post updates on my activities. I do this primarily for other DEPPERS to get some insight on where they're going and I'm sure it'll be entertainment for those of you in the fleet.
Wish me luck and say a prayer if you find the time cuz this is gonna get REAL :rmad:interesting.

I would say good luck, but I doubt you need it. The only time you really need luck is if you are going into the sandbox. Other than that, have a blast man!

I am humbled by the immediate presence of what I have come to know as Foxhole Bonding. The ingredients of said occurrence are as follows: First you take a number of people; ten or less, then you add stress and a sense of dread for the "unknown." One person starts a conversation, others join in and voila.
In a few short hours, I have made friends that feel more like family, people that I shouldn't know but I do. I feel a sense of duty to a cause greater than myself and I am starting to see that in the eyes of others.

...I feel a sense of duty to a cause greater than myself...
With this kind of attitude, Tom is certainly going to make a great Doc!

Processing.....
This is a Full Week, plus, dedicated to everything that an average person does in the First Few minutes of the day. I guess you'd say that processing week is a Start in the adjustment process. You will learn how to face and tie your shoes. They will teach you how to make your rack, brush your teeth, wash your a__, and don't ever worry about your m__f__ing hair because after about 4 hours, the s__t is gone.
You'll start out or I did, at the airport. They will find you at the USO office. By this time you will have met several others, you are likely tired, you'll be nervouse and excited. I would advise that you have no expectations. No matter how well I can explain it. It won't do it justice. I digress....
At the airport, they will line you up in such a manner that you will fell like cheap cattle...get used to it! You should also get used to not talking....EVER!
The RDCs are not cruel individuals, nor are they heartless. It is their job to stress you, to find your weakness and pressure it. The parts of ourselves tha are strong will be left alone or strengthened. The rest will be broken and rebuilt.
The PT is tough, but then again, I am in a 900 division, 901 to be exact. The food is good...very good and I miss my cigarettes.
Talk to you all again soon.
Tom:
How the heck did you manage to log on from RTC? It must be a benefit of being in Division 901 eh?
Cigarettes! I guess you just quit smoking as soon as the bus rolled through those marvelous pearly gates of RTC. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't RTC a smoke free zone!
We wish you the very best!

Wow, his language and vocabulary is very elegent. Makes me picture those washed out war movies. :] I love it.
Someone else is logging on for him, I do believe. Just writing from his letters... I think, anyway. I doubt any division would be allowed access to the internet like this... correct?

Yes it is. :D a__, ...m__f__ing ...s__t.

Oh, that's right, I remember now that he was going to keep us updated via someone else for us.
Thanks for reminding this old man! The mind, ya know, it's going.

OK LADIES & GENTLEMEN,
BOOT CAMP CODES, MODS, and CHEATS
I HAVE JUST REACHED THE HALFWAY POINT. HERE'S SOMETHINGS YOU (WHY AM I TYPING IN CAPS?) NEED TO KNOW. FIRST SOUND OFF! I DON'T MEAN YELL. WHAT I MEAN IS SPEAK AS IF YOU WANT EVERYONE
WITHIN 30 FEET TO CLEARLY HEAR YOU. I have personally startled an RDC (Recruit Dividsion Commander) jump by how loud I sounded off. That RDC treats me like gold whenver she sees me (when I am not screwing something up).
Second. Know your Chain of Command and General ORDERS. Also know your rans & rates for ALL MILITARY Personnel. Including Back packers (Army), Chair Forcers, Jarheads and Puddle Pirates. Know them ALL. Or you could study your P.Q.S.
Third. Exercise bee foh yoo get heerruh. If you can do this your fine.
Curlups - 60 in 2 minutes
Pushups - 60 in 2 minutes
1.5 mile run - in 12 minutes
This means all of the above. If you do this or better, then your RDC's will leave you alone. Trust me when I say the best day of RTC is the day the RDC's DON'T TALK to you or say your name. Ooh Rah!
Fourth. MAKE SURE YOU EAT HEALTHY before/during boot. If your body is processing the right stuff its an easy day. If no, you will gas out and you'll miss an important instruction.
FIFTH. HYDRATE!! (X3) Before RTC you need to be drinking at least 1 gallon of water per day. This will keep you healthy. Here at RTC G.L. we have something called BOOT CRUD or Recruit CRUD. It's a never ending cold, cough, sore throat, etc. Once you get it you have it until you properly hydrate. Here's what I do.
Reveille - 1 Canteen
Hygiene - 1.5 - 2 Canteens
Chow (breakfast) - 2-3 glasses of fruit juice
Training - 2 Canteens
Chow (lunch) - 2-3 glasses of fruit juice
Training - 2-3 Canteens
Chow (dinner) - 2-3 glasses of fruit juice
Training - 2 Canteens before TAPS
THIS IS A MINIMUM!!!!
Sixth. KNOW THAT YOU WILL GET I.T.E. OR B.E.A.T. Your not perfect and you'll do something stupid and get punished. The RDC will make it seem like you could end the world with your mistake, that will likely be something small. Don't take it personally, and move on. Learn your lesson, that nothing is insignificant. Detail can be our friend or enemy.
Seventh. WHEN and I MEAN WHEN you get B.E.A.T. or I.T.E. don't give up. Do it all, don't give the RDC the Priveledge of seeing you tired, or seeing you quit.
Eight. Do the workout as directed by the NAVY. EVERY stretch, every exercise to the best of your ability. If you do you will be a m_ther, F__kng Stud by Day of Training 34.
Ninth. GO TO CHAPEL. It's a break from the same old routine. It will center you. I have gone every weekend and it absolutely helps. A note to thsoe of you who don't believe. I'd advise that you go anyway, but go to a different service every week. It'll be new and you'll get your rest time.
Tom
9 glasses of fruit juice every day! I wonder if all that vitamin 'C' has an inexplicable side effect. Only time will tell.
8404...LOL. maybe just maybe they are like 1oz glasses?

It causes stomach aches and diarrhea.
There is one kind of cup there. It is roughly 10-12 ounces.

uhhh..... Can you use the head any time you want at RTC? I'm really doubting it but I really don't want to be in the middle of PT and have to tell the RDC that I need to run to the head before I sh!t my pants....:weye:

Head calls can be requested for "emergencies" but don't count on getting them often to use for breaks.
You usually are given head calls in between classes, in the division quarters, and in between training sessions or before the class or session starts once arriving at the location.

:geek:I hate to correct you buuut head calls are rarely secured. RTC "encourages" all recruits to drink 8-10 canteens of water per day. This means you will be relieving yourself of 8-10 canteens per day. If you are being motivated (punished) you will have to :weye:pinch it off but most of the time you can go as you need to. I am preparing a blog series about boot camp and I will go into the reasoning behind it.

I have discovered that some of you question my drinking so much juice. You won't have the "shoot n scoot" if you stay properly hydrated. The vitamins are needed for staying healthy and to aid in muscle recovery. Also my "regularity" was only present when I drank so much juice. The food has a tendency to stay with you, especially the peanut butter. It may not work for some but it worked for me.
Here I am though 20 lbs lighter and now a *** SAILOR***

Gosh I cannot wait for Dec. 2....
Congrats T
Hard to believe it has already been 8 weeks since you left.
The only time I ever endeared the term "Shipmate" was after I finally finished up training at RTC.
It took a completely negative tone after i left >.<
That is a shame that it's been your experience for the term to be one of a negative nature.
The very term itself entails so much more! However, the manner in which it is spoken can contribute to the negative connotations.

I think that Navy times blamed that one on Chiefs and LPO's who somehow made it what it is.
Anyway Corp school is great I am getting aquainted with the base and I think "I'm gonna take this mountain and leave it level with the ground" ... I am off to enjoy a night of semi-freedom.

So one of my buddies who's doing A-school for OS there said that those within Corps-school get a lot more freedoms than the other folk. Tell me EVERYTHING! :]
And, of course. Congrats on finishing boot an becoming a Sailor!! :D I can't believe how quicky the time has flown.

The Politically Correct response to that is HORSESH(_)!!! Corp School Phase 1 is quite restricted but with purpose. THe only freedom we have that others don't is that we can enjoy frosty beverages of the alcoholic variety if we are of age. I won't suggest doing so but once in a while isn't gonna hurt you.
Only Fleet Returnees can have a Personally Owned Vehicle. Not a big deal because the train can get you anywhere you need to go.
Phase 2 and above can wear civilian clothing and leave the base for liberty but they must be back by 2145 on training nights (like school nights) and 2359 on non training nights.
Phase 3 Overnight liberty is authorized on non training nights.
The truth is that there is more than enough entertainment on base to keep anyone busy.
You CAN have your cell and laptop from day one however which makes it very nice indeed. Just remember your military bearing and dont get bogged down with all of the whiny ass nay sayers that'll end up cleaning bedpans for a living anyway. This school has a lot of tools at your disposal if you look for them.
Great job, Tom! Good luck with A-school!
