What is the best stragtegy for serving on the Mercy? or even the Comfort? I will ship to boot in two months or less. My ultimate dream is to serve on a hospital ship. i have been studying my nonresident text books for corpsman school and seamanship and i have been getting 3.9's out of 4.0's on most all of my assignments. Is there anything else i can do besides study?

thanks very much i am off to a DEP meeting.

You will need orders to a platform that supports the USNS Mercy or Comfort. It's a shore assignment that augments to the ship when they deploy. The shore assignment is typically out of NMC Balboa (San Diego) or NMC Bethesda. How do you get it?...luck of the draw....

See you in the FMF!

As already mentioned, if you are assigned to one of the T-AH platforms, you will actually be on shore duty at one of the hospitals. Even when the ship deploys, not everyone goes. The 2 ships usually are sitting in Baltimore or San Diego and maintained by civilian mariners employed by the Military Sealift Command.
