This past weekend a homeless Navy Corpsmen was found dead in run down
travel trailer. He was seperated from his wife for some time and family has no way to provide a funeral for the man.
The local Veteran Service Officer who in turn got funds donated fromthe local American Legion, Amvets, VFW, and DAV Chapters to cover a cremation and cover transport cost to the burial site in the Salisbury Nat'l Cemetary for this corpsmen.
His name was Allen Marvin Phillips and served 12 yrs in the Navy. He was an acute diabetic and had bi-polar disease.
Ladies & Gentlemen, this hits home that we have brothers out there in the same boat. We should endeavor to locate them and even if out of pocket get them enrolled in the VA and veteran orgs that offer post level burial policies free of charge to help with final expenses. No vet whether a Doc or a Corpsmen should have to go through such a situation.
I just wanted to pass this along to one and all...its a wake up jolt that there by the grace of GOD go I or could be for any of us.
