Hello all!! I'm new here and just wanted to say hey to all of my fellow deppers!! My ship date was supposed to be March 3, 2009....but recent events that have left me jobless and a college drop out....have pushed my ship date up to next month (hopefully!!) I am enrolled as a HM (hospital corpsman) and I hope to continue my training in FMF (fleet Marine force) to be a corpsman for the Marines. My brother just graduated MCT in the Marine Corps and is awaiting his MOS schooling at 29 Palms, California.
I was in a major car accident a few weeks ago that totaled my car. I was fine physically (for the most part!) but had to drop out of college and quit my job cause I didn't have a way to either....which is why my ship date is being moved up. I was attending the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, majoring in Nursing and was 18 credits away from my degree!! Tough luck:)
Anywho...I was just wondering if anyone wanted to talk or at least keep me occupied besides the constant working out and boredom until I get shipped off!!! Hit me back if you wanna chat:)
Thanx!!
Natalie

Man, that's crazy. I'm glad you were able to move your ship date up, though. Mine's not till May, so I've got a long while still. Glad your able to hop on the boards though, the folks here are awesome. Anyway, My name's Bell and I'm going in as an HM as well [duh], and I also hope to go FMF while I'm in. :]

Hello and welcome. I wish you the best of luck at RTC, it's no big deal. It's definitely a cake walk compared to field med.
Just one question though, you said you are 18 credits away from a nursing degree?? Is that a BSN? No offense to the enlisted side, but if I was only 18 credits away, I would be finishing and coming in as an ensign. Your pay as a fresh ensign will be about as much as a chief with a good bit of experience. Just my .02. I love being a Corpsman though, it's given me a lot of good experiences I would never get elsewhere. Good luck

I thought about going in as an officer, but I'm no where near 18 credits away. I've always wanted the enlisted experiance, though. :] I'm glad I'm doing this rather than the Nursing Canidate Program. That's another thing you could possibly do Natalie. Ask your recruiter about that, and ask to talk to an officer recruiter as well. Definitely explore your possibilities. They'll give you monthly stipeneds and such. Also, if you haven't already, find out about Tuition assistance if you have student loans.

Thanx all!! I am 18 credits away from clinicals...but clinicals don't transfer so I'd have to retake them anyway. And yes, that would be my BSN degree. I really wanted to stay and finish before leaving, but God stepped in and changed my plans for me!!! I thought about going in as an officer....but I wanna get down and dirty!!! No offense to officers, I just wanna be able to do the grunt work and help in the actual situations, not direct others to do so. I'm not in the military for the pay!!! Obviously:) hahaha....and hello Bell!! Congrats on DEPing in...I've been in since April 2008. I've already looked into all of the programs, but as I said, I want to be in the middle of all of the action. And going the long and hard route is the way to do that. My recruiter thinks I'm being stubborn and dumb (he believes I'm too smart and ahead for my job!!) but this is what I want to do. My brother is a Marine and he asked me to be a corpsman for them...and that's what I plan on doing!!! And just for the record...I'm PTing my freakin arms off!!! hahaha...thanx for the encouragement and advice, guys:) It's greatly appreciated!!:)
