What are the chances of getting a C school after Corp School? Do I just request it?

That sound like a question for Da-Chief, but I strongly urge you not to take a C-school yet. Get to the fleet and see what those NEC's do. I have heard to many bad story about how "I didn't know what I was getting into."

I wish I could have given you more info. If you do have questions about NEC's, please feel free to ask.

He gives good gouge. I did one tour before I picked 8406 (AVT) for my NEC, I loved it as I liked being operational and I liked Aviation but did not like hanging my ass out of a copter(Poolzer) or jumping from perfectly good airplanes(HMC-FMF-PJ).

Everyone says get a C-school, but If I were you and your single and young, go test the operational aspect of the Navy first. Less to tie you down and you only have to worry about yourself. You can't get a Bonus on this tour anyways, and trust me Lab tech sounds great until you play with Pee and Poop for cultures and smell the stuff day in and day out..
X-ray?? Can't get it until after you first tour..

Psych Tech? going Civ and the Navy does not give you enough to do anything on the outside.

Surgical Tech.. This one Imight recommend out of A-School as you can still be operational.

What HM1 and I are trying to get at.. There are quite a few Corpsman who have been pigeon-holed in the hospital/Clinic setting due to their NEC's.. They then wonder why they don't get the higher Evals, Promotions, or Commissioning programs over the operational HM..

Hope this helps.. If your at school come see me in Student Personnel I will go over it more in depth with you.

My son is at Corp school now andI am just trying to get info to offer suggestions and advice for him. He is young (18) and single so you are suggesting not to go for a C school? Also, originally his contract was for Air Rescue, but at boot camp, they found him to be color deficient so he had to reclassify. (MEPS passed himat home but I guess the Boot Camp test was stricter). He was pretty bummed out at first but he now seems very happy with his choice of Corpsman. Are theirC schoolshe would not be eligible for because of the color deficiency? Is it possible to get a waiver for that?

I guess what I'm getting at is, What would you advise a young sailor right out of corp school? I've been reading alot of responses on this web sight and your advice to these young people is very valuable. I hope my son meets you while there at Great Lakes.

Tell him to come to Student Control and ask for HMC Crone

I'll talk to him for you.
