I'm scheduled to go to great lakes may 22nd for basic under a five year contract. Am planning on going FMF through lejune after my A school. Was curious if anybody has any input/advice for taking advantage of my stay in the Navy. Also if anybody knows the requirements in order to be stationed with recon please let me know.
Thanks.

As soon as you report onboard.. Ask to talk to HMC Crone in Student Control, I will get you hooked up for Recon. Also let them know over at RTC that you want RECON as the Dive Motivator shop needs to work you out.
This is "BUTT KICKING" PT program. You need to start thinking that you are a "WEAPON" for the US Navy/Marine Corps Team. All the little boo-hoo's that you may have prior to coming in, Leave them at the Gate.
I could am not trying to frighten you, but we need people who are dedicated to this line of work with "0" baggage.
Good on ya..
See ya when you get in...

Yes sir I am, we spoke on the phone two or three days prior to me going to MEPs. At the moment I have a personal trainer five days a week and basically all we do is cardio with lifting between each work out. So the physically fit part im working on till I actually leave for bootcamp.
I figured if I was going to be in the thick of things I may as well learn how to defend myself to a greater level on top of being with the best. At the same time I'm looking at this as a job and not a career, but that could change if I truly like this line of work.
Thanks.

Newbie,
So you wanna be a Recon Doc. That's awsome! Recon Doc's are well trained, the pipline is awsome training. Just remember that you'll deffinately need to be physically fit. For Recon, you'll have to be able to do pull-ups, sit-ups, run, swim and complete a hike/run with a 50 lb pack. I'll check with my Recon buddies to get the actual Recon requirements.
Take Da-Chief's advise and workwith the Dive Motivator. It will do you good, because it's almost the same, with the exception of the hike/run.
Take care and hope to see you in Lejeune with the elite of the Corps.

Doc Young,
I'm actually in Cherry Point with MWSG-27/MWSS-271. I've been in the Lejeune Area since 1997. I was with 2d MarDiv for 4 years and deployed twice with 2nd Bn 6th Mar, then I was at II MEF for 3.

Well I would like to thank everybody for the advice given to me but I still don't know if I will have to invest more years to establish that goal. I would really like to experience the green side and be as hardcore as possible. This will most likely be a job, not a career, but if I really like what I do that could quite possibly change.
So crazycajun if you would find out whatALL the requirements are for being with recon I would be extremely grateful. Thank all of you for your help.
