I have joined as a Hospital Coropsman for a five year enlistment and all I am garaunteed pretty much is the rating. I want to know if I can get FMBT guaranteed into my contract because I want to serve with the Marines. I asked my recruiter about it and he said he has never heard of getting FMBT in the contract. He may just be uninformed.. he did tell me however a guy that had just got back from boot camp said he heard FMBT was needing Corpsman so maybe it is not necessary as long as I let my command know that I want to go FMF.

Is able to be put into my contract? If not then is it pretty much something you will get if you request it? Where would C school fall in with all of this? My main interest is the NEC HM-8404..

Any information is well appreciated.

Wrong, you are 'pretty much' guaranteed a 'seat' at Corpsman 'A' school. Obtaining the rating is only secured by successfully graduating the school!

I want to know if I can get FMBT guaranteed into my contract because I want to serve with the Marines.

Only Reservists can get FMTB written in on their contract. However, the Navy Enlistment Contract is just that a contract, whereby it is a culmination of everything you have negotiated. You never know unless you ask and/or try.

If not then is it pretty much something you will get if you request it?

Yes and No. It depends on the Navy's budget and if any billets are open at the time.

If you leave for RTC bootcamp in January through June, and while you are at Corpsman 'A' school and make it known you truly want FMTB, you stand a good chance of obtaining orders for it.

'C' schools are offered (sometimes) to those students who excel at Corpsman 'A' school academically. But this is not always the case nor is there a guarantee. If you are not offered a 'C' school, you can apply for one, that you are qualified for, through your detailer and chain of command after the completion of your first tour of duty (2-3 years).

09;

Also, you may want to begin studying the DEP-PQS booklet (http://www.corpsman.com/recruiting-info/delayed-entry-program-dep-success-accelerator/) your Recruiter has given you. If you didn't get one, you can view and/or download it from out site. It will be required knowledge for all at RTC.

Yes I have the PQS form, all I really know right now is the Sailor's Creed and my 11 General Orders of a Sentry and all ranks on sight :P
I didn't know I would need to know all of those things! I'll get right on it!

What were you refering to with the Jan-June timeline for FMTB? What happens after June? I prob wont be grad. A-school till later in the summer, will it be harder to get FMTB?

What were you refering to with the Jan-June timeline for FMTB?

Referencing what Da-Chief has previously stated. It has to do with 'funding' and the Navy's budget. As the year progresses to a close, the money grows smaller and smaller until until the new fiscal year begins.

Essentially, you stand a very good chance of getting FMTB directly out of Corpsman 'A' school if you want it between those months. As the fiscal year progresses and money begins to run short, there are not as many FMTB billets available. Thus, you may spend some time at a Marine (or other type of duty) base for awhile until an opening becomes available.

...your are GARUNTEED FMF.

Not everyone who signs, receives a bonus! Not everyone who signs as Corpsman get's FMTB written in on their contract!

Morgy, are you a Reservist?

Nope, you had somebody with you who knows the ropes, so to speak! I've done the same for some young people in my home town. Anything is negotiable as far as contracts go. Ya did good!

Not unless it is written on your contract. You should have a copy of it near you. Unless it directly says it on there, no, you can only request it. Active duty can't get in on a contract, only reservists.

FMF is Fleet Marine Force, how would one get 'that' on their contract?

Billy, I believe you are referring to FMTB (Field Medical Training Battalion).

If you're going in Active Duty around the first part of the new fiscal year, and because we are at war, you stand a pretty good chance of picking up orders to FMTB. Let your instructors know at Corpsman 'A' school that you are real interested in going and they may be able to help you achieve your goals.

Do well academically, militarily, be squared away and stay out of trouble, will also help your cause.

In my corps school class about half of the people who wanted orders to FMTB did not get them including the person with the highest GPA. It is all luck of the draw coming out of Great Lakes.

It has every thing to do with the budget in the fiscal year and current needs of the Navy! There is no luck involved! Those needs are coming around again, with the recently announced push of 30,000 more personnel going over.

Well with the whole fiscal year thing, that kind of sucks because if ever thing goes smoothly I will be out A-school sometime in late November. On the other hand, I have heard of people waiting for schools to start for weeks so maybe I will get lucky. So as male HM if I do not get to go to FMBT school what well I most like end up doing, and if they send me to some other c-school do i have the option down the line to go FMBT?
