View Full Version : Length of training.
I am a Depper leaving 11.13.08 for great lakes and I have a couple of questions regarding length of training. I have FMF 8404 guaranteed in my contract. My questions are how long is A school, my recruiter says its self-paced, but this dosen't make any sense , and i can't find any info online about it. I already have my EMT-I licensce :national registry and state of tennessee, will i be repeating classes ? how long is c-school, and will there be ant break in between a-school and c-school
CBRUN:
This has been discussed within 'our' forums.
Recruit Training Command, RTC (http://www1.netc.navy.mil/nstc/rtcgl/index.html)- 8 Weeks of training
Hospital Corpsman 'A' school = 70 training days
Field Medical Training Battalion (http://www.lejeune.usmc.mil/fmtb/index.shtml)- FMTB = 8 Weeks of training
There is a period of time students spend at the school, prior to 'classing up'. This time does not count towards your training days! It can be different for each class, therefore one cannot give you an exact timeframe you will physically be in school(s).
FMTB is not a 'C' school, although it is common for Recruiters to refer to it as one. Having FMTB guaranteed in your contract, tells us you are enlisting as a Reservist.
Having your EMT is great, but military medicine is 'somewhat' different than civilian medicine. Stay receptive. From what I understand, the school does use the 'Brady" book 11th edition.

cbrun,
I was an EMT as well prior to corps school.....yes most of it is routine and youve been taught, my best advice is dont be a show off, yes the intructor will realize you can do the task at hand, however help the others whom have NO medical background, you will be respected more as a helper then a show-off know-it-all. Teach with your hands and your knowledge and you will do just fine!
