What are the chances of going to the Naval Acedemy after A school. My son is questioning this and toying with applying if it is a possibility. He got in some trouble in High School (a fight) and was charged a misdemeanor. Would this disqulify him from attempting to go the the Academy?

(2) SAT SCORES ABOVE 500 CRITICAL READING (FORMERLY VERBAL) AND 550 MATH WITH A COMBINED SCORE OF AT LEAST 1050 OR ACT SCORES OF 22 ENGLISH AND 24 MATH. POTENTIAL CANDIDATES WITH SAT OR ACT SCORES THAT ARE OLDER THAN TWO YEARS OR BELOW THE MINIMUM REQUIRED STANDARDS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO RETAKE THE TEST AND THEN APPLY. STANDARDIZED TEST SCORES WILL BE ACCEPTED UNTIL 01MAR07 FOR APPLICANTS WHO HAVE ALREADY MET THE REQUIRED MINIMUM STANDARDS AND WANT TO IMPROVE THEIR SCORES.

Charged or convicted? I am assuming convicted, but there is aBIG difference between the two!
The details of the fight in the police report might help mitigate the situation (ie. defending mom's honor) or be a solid No-Go (ie. drunken racial hate crime). You can also help to negate the blemish by obtaining letters of recommendation from key players and prominent positions. (school admin, teachers, local PD brass, church, community leaders, elected officials at all levels, etc,.... ) Outstanding performance & exemplary conduct since the fight is also of vital importance. Even with a spotless record, "average" really does not make it to the academy.
