I tried to search for these but I couldn't find complete answers...
Just some random questions that I am wondering about...

I hear rumors about haircuts costing 30 bucks and everything is overpriced for you to purchase in case you need anything at boot camp...
Is that true?
Is there a way to avoid a huge chunk coming out of your check if you come prepared with your own "allowed" supplies? (Soap, toothbrush, shaving etc.)
How much are those haircuts?
I saw in the video they give you a white bag and put toiletries in it...would i be better off not buying anything since they are going to give/force me to buy everything when I am there anyways?

We are trained on the pistol and shotgun...
Pistol Shot Ribbon...is that obtainable while in boot camp? If you can show your already known knowlege of using/maintaining the pistol...

hmm what else is there...

Also saw a SR baptized by the chaplain...unfortunately I was never baptized and it would be a very cool/spiritual thing to accomplish...especially when I am trying to complete RTC. Does that really happen? How would I go about getting that done?

still a few more I think...

What happens on New Year's at RTC? I'll be there when that occurs I would assume they have something "special" for us hehe

Adopt a sailor...what is that exactly? I will be there starting Dec. 2 something with xmas??

Weird question hehe they issue us underwear, socks, shoes, uniforms...I would think the only thing we give back are the blue working uniforms correct? I think I read that somewhere...on that note what do we get to keep when we graduate?

I think I already asked this but I am typing as fast as I can before the battery dies, how much is taken out of your paycheck because of RTC materials needed?

When we arrive will we be told when our graduation date is pretty early in training so we can tell our family members??

My friend has a referral that is considering to sign up. If he only gets 1 referral while in DEP what does he get? I see he gets a letter of commendation for that. What if that referral waited til he went active duty...would he get some kind of monetary bonus or something like that?

I think that is all I have for the moment...sorry for the clutter or the attempted fiasco of randomness. Just some random questions I have been thinking about hehe

Oh and please refrain from comments that try to poke incompetence, I am just wondering.

Thanks again.

Your sea bag issue costs around $600. Only show up with the clothes on your back and eye glasses. The other stuff like soap and deordent etc. is reasonably priced.

You will learn of your graduation date early, HOWEVER, if you get into trouble or have health or testing issues that day will be delayed. Dont worry about getting a pistol marksman ribbon. YOu get it or you dont. If you stay awake during the classes and pass the live fire you get it.

They will issue you everything you need, you give back your guard belt. Haircuts are $8

Yes thank you. I have been to that site numerous times, but none of them can completely answer my questions.

I'm thinking i'm going to keep a journal just for this reason hehe

Thank you for the answers though.

Not true...user lostboy has quoted the price for the haircuts at RTC as being $8.00 Heck I could do it for a lot cheaper than that!

Is there a way to avoid a huge chunk coming out of your check if you come prepared with your own "allowed" supplies? (Soap, toothbrush, shaving etc.)

I saw in the video they give you a white bag and put toiletries in it...would i be better off not buying anything since they are going to give/force me to buy everything when I am there anyways?.

There is no way to get out of the mandatory purchases at RTC. Only take with you what the link provided above allows you to bring to RTC.

We are trained on the pistol and shotgun...
Pistol Shot Ribbon...is that obtainable while in boot camp? If you can show your already known knowledge of using/maintaining the pistol...

Your civilian weapons knowledge or certification(s) have no bearing at RTC.

RTC Weapons Training

"I wish to have no connection with any ship that does not sail fast; for I intend to go in harm's way." -- John Paul Jones

"Your weapons training will consist of marksmanship fundamentals, M9 service pistol and M870 shotgun characteristics, clearing barrel procedures, and weapons safety practices for successful completion of the Navy Handgun Qualification Course and M870 shotgun familiarization. In addition, you will receive basic Anti-Terrorism / Force Protection training. You will be going into harm's way. We will give you the skills you need to protect your ship, your shipmate, and yourself."

Also saw a SR baptized by the chaplain...unfortunately I was never baptized and it would be a very cool/spiritual thing to accomplish...especially when I am trying to complete RTC. Does that really happen? How would I go about getting that done?...

You should direct these questions to your RDC and/or your Chaplain. I would think this is available. You can attend religious services every Sunday at RTC and Chaplains are available.

What happens on New Year's at RTC? I'll be there when that occurs I would assume they have something "special" for us hehe?...

Perhaps a holiday meal in the galley, and maybe a little timeoff, I'll have to defer to our Sailors for a more definitive answer.

Adopt a sailor...what is that exactly? I will be there starting Dec. 2 something with xmas??.

It is where your name is placed on a list and families outside of RTC take you in to have a holiday meal with them. If this is still in effect, your RDC's will be going over that information with each of the Recruits.

Weird question hehe they issue us underwear, socks, shoes, uniforms...I would think the only thing we give back are the blue working uniforms correct? I think I read that somewhere...on that note what do we get to keep when we graduate???.

Wrong, you give back your web gear as lostboy has stated. All uniforms and 'underwear' are kept as your 'initial' issue.

I think I already asked this but I am typing as fast as I can before the battery dies, how much is taken out of your paycheck because of RTC materials needed????.

You can email the public affairs officer at RTC and they may be able to provide an answer on this one. rtc.pao@navy.mil (rtc.pao@navy.mil) If you know from the previous post that the seabag issue is around $600.00, factor in shaving gear etc... and knowing that RTC is only about 7 weeks long, the payments are going to be a little on the high side. I don't believe you leave RTC owing the Navy for anything.

When we arrive will we be told when our graduation date is pretty early in training so we can tell our family members??.

RTC understands this and you are notified of your graduation date fairly early on in your training. However, anything can set you back in training, resulting in a new date. Your family and friends can monitor your graduation date from the RTC weblink I provided above, providing you, the Recruit, keep them informed as to any changes in your Division/Ship number assignment.

My friend has a referral that is considering to sign up. If he only gets 1 referral while in DEP what does he get? I see he gets a letter of commendation for that. What if th at referral waited til he went active duty...would he get some kind of monetary bonus or something like that?

Waiting until you report to active duty buys you nothing!

My understanding was in boot that issued you a blue chit book which was the same as cah for to buy supplies in the Nex on RTC grounds. You should be issued your full seabag upon arrival including all items needed. Pay was done over two paychecks when I was in boot. It should be done direct deposit and you should leave boot with money in your account. We had money available by pay and review weekend to use while out with family. Graduation notices can be obtained and sent out along with photos if you buy them. Next!

Our recruiters are telling us to bring basically nothing but the clothes on our back. Any important documents..such as Driver's License, Social Security Card, Mariage Certs/Divorce Decree...etc. And just one change of clothes..basically underwear for the overnight stay at the hotel the night before because everything else that we will try to bring will get sent back in a box even if it is on the list of what to bring. Makes no sense to me..other than just part of the mind game that they play....see how you can do when everything is taken from you type of thing.

When it's all said and done, you will be asked at RTC, to take everything you were not born with OFF! Those and all other items will be sent back home!

I only went with the clothes on my back and of course the drivers license, SSN Card and papers MEPs gave you. Semper Fi! Partial issue of uniforms and toiletries were given that first afternoon.

The way we did it: you went into a room, stripped, and items were put in a box. A partial seabag issue was issued on the spot with underwear, socks, t-shirts, and sweats until you finish Processing.
