I'll say this about RTC ... It's not a lot of fun at first but there are a ton of HM1's who push boots (RDC's). I won't recommend trying to pick their brains about their job until the last week but the knowledge and insight that my Corpsman RDC gave me is and will be essential.

Hoorah HM1(FMF) Valdez Division 901.

One tip I'll give to all of you who are about to ship. The first night (Night of Arival) someone will be walking around asking if you have ROTC experience or prior military. They will form a line and ask about how fast you run the mile and how strong of a swimmer you are. If you see this VOLUNTEER this is a 900 Division Screener. You want to be in a 900 ... reason being you will be given a broader scope of training and set yourself up for success. I was 901 and while it was probably a bit harder I learned more and will reap the benefits.

Good Luck

That is really good to know Tom. Thanks for the tip. I am not former ROTC but I was former color guard so I got to toss around flags, rifles and swords. I was really wanting a 900 division but everyone thinks I am crazy. I know it is harder...but definately worth the challenge.

Hey, I was in a 900 and its not hard at all. The hardest part of boot camp was staying awake. And don't try to talk to your RDC's until you complete battlestations. It will keep you from ITE, which you will soon be introduced to.

If you dont see a 900 division screener walking around asking for experience and times and stuff, is there a way to volunteer yourself otherwise...? I'd love to get in a 900 for the training and challenge. Anyone have any advice?

Tom stated that on the, Night of Arrival (http://www.corpsman.com/recruiting-info/recruit-training-command-rtc-boot-camp/) at RTC (http://www1.netc.navy.mil/nstc/rtcgl/index.html), there 'will' be a screener!

In the first couple of hours up to one day of being there someone will ask you. Don't worry, you won't have to go wondering around walking up to people asking to be in a 900 division.
