Corpsman school is considered my "A" school correct? Now, i have heard that the HM rate is overmanned right now. After corpsman school what do i do? Do i pick a "C" school at that point, or do i go to my duty station? I figure i have to get some kind of speciality training in order to do a specific job. I was really looking into Physical Therapy or Respiratory Therapy. I would like to do all my Training in San Diego, and then get stationed at NMCSD. San Diego is where i would like to be stationed at for my permanent duty station. I have been told by my recruiters that i should be able to get San Diego, just wanting to know if this might be true. So could someone tell me the process i would go through after corpsman school. Thanks

...after RTC i am heading to Corpsman school. That is considered my "A" school correct?

Correct!

...i have heard that the HM rate is overmanned right now.

It's not overmanned! There will always be a need for Corpsman, especially in a time of war!

After corpsman school what do i do? Do i pick a "C" school at that point, or do i go to my duty station? I figure i have to get some kind of specialty training in order to do a specific job.

If you do exceptionally well academically at Corpsman 'A' school, it is conceivable you could be offered a 'C' school. At this point, you take what is offered or pass it up. You may not have a choice of multiple 'C' schools. If you do not get offered one, you can apply for one you that you are qualified for, after your first tour of duty (2-3 years).

Your Corpsman 'A' school is your specialty if you do not get a 'C' school.

I was really looking into Physical Therapy or Respiratory Therapy.

Physical Therapy (http://www.med.navy.mil/sites/navmedmpte/nshs-sd/Pages/PhysicalTherapy.aspx)

Respiratory Therapy Technician (http://www.med.navy.mil/sites/navmedmpte/nshs-sd/Pages/RespiratoryTherapyTechnician.aspx)

I would like to do all my Training in San Diego, and then get stationed at NMCSD. San Diego is where i would like to be stationed at for my permanent duty station. I have been told by my recruiters that i should be able to get San Diego, just wanting to know if this might be true.

If you get selected for these schools, you could attend either Portsmouth, VA or San Diego Naval School of Health Sciences. It depends on the needs of the Navy.

Getting permanently stationed in San Diego, good luck, many Sailors want San Diego. Some get it, others don't.

Actually, Our rate is a bit overmanned right now.. (Can you believe it?) because more and more folks are reenlisting. You can tell by the last advancement exam results.

This is not to say you can't enlist in as a HM, you can, but you might have to wait a while to get your slot.

Good Luck!

Oh Yeah Also the newest (Well it has come back around again) is that you select orders that are availed to you on your class ranking out of Corps School, so if you have some of the best grades you will pick before those who have not done as well.

That being said, this does not mean you get to select what you want.. it means you get to select what you want out of "WHATS AVAILIBLE"..

Good Luck!

That is the way it was when my buddy went in about 3 years ago. Said you go into a room with a guy, a phone, and your paperwork. He starts asking you questions, and again, depending on how well you did. At this time, it was also self pased, he did it in 6 weeks not 14. They asked him questions like, east coast or west coast? Then started asking about where you want to try and work, say you say at a marine base. Then he checks out what is "AVAILABLE" on the which ever coast you asked for and gets a list of jobs available at that time. You either say yes or no. That is how it was for him.
