I might be getting 1st Mar Div now and would like some input from anyone who's been there or who has had experience with MLG.
A little bit about me...
I am NCS contracted with FMSS starting in May. From there I am assigned to 1st MLG.
I hear division sucks but at the same time its an experience like no other.
Right now I don't know what I would be getting myself into, but I am always up for an experience and a challenge. I am not the best at PT, but I stay motivated and push through, try my hardest and I like to help others along who are struggling even more than I am.
Any thoughts, comments, concerns would be great.
Thank you in advance!

Both are honorable, but to be honest, if you want to be where the rubber hits the road, and be the biggest benefit to the Marines who are fighting the fight, Then Div is the way to go.
Understand Chris, this is where the $hit is. But if you do a good job, and the Marines respect you, you might have a chance to Extend your contract and then re-enlist if you want. They are starting to do it again.
Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with. I am at work right now when I get home, I will get with Crazy and I am sure others will chime in on the difference.

Shipmate,
If you are going to 1st MLG, you've gotten pretty lucky, because a lot of the orders out right now are for MAR DIVs so you have gotten lucky unless your main reason for becoming a Corpsman was to go with the Marines and do all of the "Marine stuff" then you may start to fill a bit cheated. Now I'm not saying that you will not do Marine stuff with the MLG because you will see the field you will do some patrols, you will be Doc to those Marines which is a very important title. My best advise to you is to take advantage of all of the training opportunities that come your way, push to go to Sick-call Screeners course you will need it, get your FMF PQS as soon as you get on board, go through TCCC and learn it forward and backward, become a HUMVEE driver and just soak every bit of knowledge that you can. Lastly remember when things start to suck that it could be worse you could be at the tip of the spear with Division.

If you end up with Division then the same things I just said apply, even more so in some accounts, they will look to you for advise and you will be the one to teach them how to save the other's life if and when that time comes they may have to save your life so teach them as much of what you know as possible you never know when they or you might need it. Just remember you are going to be looked at as more than just a Corpsman with the Marines, they are going to look at you as an outsider with something to prove but don't let that get the best of you, your pt will improve and once you show that you can hang with them and that you know your stuff then you are one of them you just bleed Navy blue.

Awesome! I'll go ahead and stay MLG for now then and if I can get extended I will go ahead and push into division.

best of luck remember those things I said they will help you.
My son just joined the 1/8 at Camp Lejeune out of FMSS. Line corpsman. Very up tempo training, OEMS coming up soon. He's pumped and happy as can be. Got a couple of PFC's as roommates who are already challenging his medical know how, but so far he's answered all their questions like an experienced salt, and they're beginning to smile. In 5 months, he puts in his request to extend his NCS contract for 24 months, and is looking to be senior line corpsman before he gets out.
My son just left 3/10 at Camp Lejeune to go to FMSS - his Battalion Chief said he would like to have him back when he finishes FMSS - sounds like he is going to put the request in to Regiment, so we will see what happens with that. I would like to see him back with the Marines he alreadly knows but being prior service I know that he will go where the Marines need him. Best of luck to all of them.

I have a "chance" at going DIV instead of MLG while at FMSS. The CCC will look at everyone on a case by case basis for those who want to swap orders. If I go DIV I'll probably at least have a shot at extending my NCS contract. Oh the choices to research...
