okay, i leave in august to be a corpsman, and i would love to be in fmf. my recruiter said that it is really tough lately since a lot of reservists are fmf, so i have to push if i want it. i would have it no other way, so what are things i need to do after boot to get into fmf?

P.s Recruiters don't know thier Ass from a hole in the ground about this stuff.. It happens at the detailing level, not with them.

Thanks, that makes me not so uneasy. No offense, but I think I would die if I was on a ship.

Wrong service to be in if you would die if you were on a ship. HAHA!! With that said, I have served 13 years in the navy and have 15 "official" days on my sea counter as embarked troops. Most of my "sea" time has been in the field.

I've always thought it strange for people tojoin the Navy and then they do everything they can to not be stationed on a ship.Just remember one thing...discomfort is relative...

That's the preferred method of transportation for FMF isn't it?

It sure is and that's why MARINES translates into "My A$$ Rides In Navy Equipment Sometimes!!!!"

Proudly servingwith the USMC!

Ships? Those are the big gray things with a round a$$ and a pointy front, right? ;)

Just kidding, Tracy.

Where

I

Never

Go

Embarked

Right?

15 yrs (10+ USMC), 3 SSDRs...and not an hour aboard ship! Gotta love the Marines, especially the Wing. Biggest gray thing I ever got on was a Herk. Will prob finish 20 USN years w/o a day "at sea", a ticker that looks like this : "000000",and can count on at least 2, probably 3 more SSDRs.

Prior to taking orders to FMSS as a 31 yr old HM2, I was trying to hop from shore to sea duty at cecil fld. The detailer, despite a specific 1306 told me I was going to go to the first sea duty he had. No one could budge this turd from his position. I specifically requested a VFA unit whose HA had been a deserter. CO, XO, CMC and FS all agreed and even called asking for me. He initially said "Yep put vfa XX on the 1306 and we'll send you."

Well I did and he denied it, when I called squaking he told me the real deal. Ok so I dropped the whole issue, and figured out I was not getting it. He and I never talked agian. I waited til he was gone a few months later (I ever see him again...)

Well a new guy told me "GO FMSS it'll be career enhancing and give you a different perspective." I had already done 2 cruises with a helo squadron so I knew carrier aviation real good.

I got to Beaufort, they told me go to MAG 31 HQ and tell them you're going to VMFA 451. A few months later, HMCS Freddie King pulled me in and said " I need you to take over 251. four months later I was sailing onboard USS AMERICA. I sent the detailer who told me it would be a different perspective and asked "Other than the uniform, how's this different from what I did before?"

Funny, I never heard from him.

The moral of the story is always push for what you really want. Seek guidance from those who can help (I didn't go to my HMC - I was too proud). When the BS is delivered, send it back in a respectful manner and let them know youcan laugh through it.
