Thank you all for in information you provide on this site. I am 26 years old with a bachelors degree in public communication and have been a ff/medic for three years. I am really intersted in becoming a reserve corpsman and had a friend tell me of a program that cut time off of training (apparantly a ff buddy of his did it a few years back). Does anyone know any info on this?

I am very new to the whole process and have a few more questions, mainly on behalf of my wife. I understand that there might be time between all the different schools one goes to, what does the reservest do in between the different schools? Does the individual know ahead of time how much time there will be between schools? My wife is alittle aprehensive of me leaving her at home with two small children for a long period, not against it, just aprehensive. I guess what I am asking is once I am gone to boot camp, will I ever be back home before my training is over?

Thank you for your time.

You can read about a 'possible' program within the already posted thread located at:

Which Reserve program are you enlisting in? Generally, you will not be able to leave (go home) until after Corpsman 'A' school or perhaps FMTB!

RTC Bootcamp (http://www1.netc.navy.mil/nstc/rtcgl/index.html) = 8 weeks
Corpsman 'A' school (http://www.med.navy.mil/sites/navmedmpte/nhcs-gl/Pages/default.aspx) = 50 training days (holidays, weekends, orientation not included)
FMTB (http://www.lejeune.usmc.mil/fmtb/index.shtml) = 56 training days

You do know that Navy Reserves can now mean more than just one weekend a month and two weeks in the summer. Don't forget about deployments or IA assignments. You could be away longer than you both originally thought. :chat:

On our main page, there are two books that can be viewed online or downloaded and can answer additional questions.

Some may qualify for the Reserve Hospital Corpsman Training Program for Non Prior Service Navy Reserve Hospital Corpsman which consists of 74 online training courses encompassing all Naval Hospital Corps School curriculum and then two weeks of skill demonstration labs at Naval Hospital Corps School for Annual Training.

There was once a Reserve Navy Enlisted Classification Attainment Program (NECAP) to complete FMST at FMTB in order to obtain the HM8404 NEC but I do not think it is running right now, which means everybody does the active duty school.

I recommend doing the full length active duty schools though
