He probably means actually talking to someone since those links really don't give an explanation of what the techs really do other than a generic sentence or 2.

Are you at a NH or on the @med.navy.mil server? If so, look up Oleary, Micheal (HMC). He was a dive med tech for a few years before picking up his dive IDC in 2007, he was my LPO years back and we were both SAR until he learned there were more helos going in the water than subs crashing into the air.
