View Full Version : Marine uniform as a reserve HM?
Can I request to switch to Marine regs, even if I'm a reserve corpsman?
If so, what do I need to do?
I'm attached to 1st Battalion, 25th Marines, 4th Marine Div.

EMT,
Get with your 1stSGT, or Senior SNCO.. tell em you want to do this. You do understand what it entails right?
Let me know if you don't.

Thank you, D/C.
I've been told that in order to go Marine regs, I need to abide by USMC grooming regulations, as well and pass the Marine Corps PFA/PRT.
Any other info will be appreciated.

Yes you can, just fill out a chit requesting to go to Marine Regs. It shouldn't be a big deal. But remember, now you will have 2 seabags to maintain. don't neglect your Navy side uniforms, keep them current and in working condition.....

Im sure you know this and it was a typo but the Marines call it a PFT... ;) And do be suprised if you get to join in the fun of the new CFT the Marines are doing. Combat Fitness Training ...GOOD STUFF

Just a little information, look for MCO 10120.28. This will answer your questions.

If I remember correctly active duty has 30 days from the date of reporting to submit a request to go Marine Corps Reg's but reservists have 90 days. (After that time you are no longer eligible* until you transfer to a new USMC command.)
Submit a Special Request Chit up your chain of command and go see USMC unit Supply with your correct sizes. For E6 & below, the Marines are required to pay for your uniform issue. Supply will most likely submit an order that will probably take several months to arrive, but they might also just give you a purchase req and send you directly over to the uniform shop.
However, you will likely have to be interviewed by the 1stSgt and/or SgtMaj, plus pass the USMC BC and PFT/CFT before they authorize the order for your uniform.
(*I have seen Corpsmen submit a late request after the time limit expired, but they had to buy their own uniforms at that point.)

Quick question about Marine regs: Do you have to take the BST? They are trying to have all Marine reg personnel take it, but some are saying we don't have to. I am almost positive that the page 13 for Marine regs says only about the PFT and grooming standards.
Also, I ran the CFT the other day. The first two evolutions were easy. I ran a 2:37 on the 880yard and smoked all the Marines out there. Also had the most on ammo can lifts but all the Marines stopped at 45 (minimum). The last evolution includes carrying ammo cans, low crawl, high crawl, fireman's carry, buddy drag, and it whipped my ass. Really gotta practice on that one. It took me 2:50, but I made the grenade throw so take off 5 seconds.
Note: If you don't think boots and utes will hinder you, take a second thought.

USMC Uniform Reg's

(-) The USMC CO, XO, 1stSgt, SgtMaj & LCPO might all have a say in which Corpsman's requests to go Marine Reg gets approved and what hoops need to be jumped through to get there. Some units automatically approve all requests. Other units requie interviews, inspections, and performance tests (like PFT)
(-) Yes SelRes HM's with the Marines may (must) attempt to obtain the FMF pin.
(-) EVERYONE attempting to qualify or requalify for the FMF pin must pass the USMC PFT/CFT. All FMF pin holders may be required to requalify for the FMF pin upon transfer or if they screw up something big. You can loose your pin by failing to maintain standards
(-) The USMC CO can make everyone participate in a USMC PFT or CFT. Your LPO can do the same. The test scores might not be recorded and you might not be subject to any of the administrative procedures, but you would still have to participate and may be evaluated accordingly.
(-) It is a good idea for anyone training for the FMF pin to participate in BST. Much of the material is identical to what you have to know for the pin. It also helps ensure a minimum level of compentency to build from.
