Hey, am scheduled to ship to RTC on 20090603, and have a contract including Corps school. Slowly have been getting interested in honor guard, and am looking for as much info as I can before I ship out and miss that chance. My over all goal is to be a Corpsman don't get me wrong I want to serve, but after my grandpa passed away on Christmas, a WWII veteran who earned the Bronze Star while fighting with the 91st Infantry in Italy, I have found my self thinking that it would be amazing to be part of the honor guard. I had my DEP meeting tonight and put a bug in my recruiter's ear about it, but he had no clue and said he would look into it. Considering he didn't know jack crap about HMs I figured I'd do my own research. All he knew was that it was a 2 year commitment and that the selection he thought was done during Basic. Are there minimum hight requirements? Im 5'10". Dont know if that would automatically disqualify me or not. After your 2 year commitment can you be thrown back in undesignated or does it just delay your A school? Any help is fully appreciated!

"After this selective assignment, the Sailors usually receive their choice of specialized training at a Navy school and are assigned to the fleet."
That is about all I can find on the ceremonial guard. You will have to get your Recruiter to check with their Chain of Command for guidance, with regards to your Corpsman 'A' school and how that works with being assigned to the ceremonial guard out of Recruit Training Command, RTC.
Special Note: Because, "there are approximately 180 junior Navy enlisted men and women assigned to the Ceremonial Guard's specialized details", there may or may not be availability for this assignment at the time you are 'at' Recruit Training Command. However, you can apply at a later time. Bear in mind, this is a highly competitive assignment.
