Hey guys, according to what I've heard that after you get processed and get the infamous Zero all-around buzzcut, the recruits who get in RTC earlier than the next batch of recruits get more respect than them due to the length of their hair after getting it cut.
But in my case, I omitted to MEPS that I'm actually half-wolf and my hair grows at an alarming fast rate so after getting shaved to the skin I'll have a fro a week or two before boot is over. My question is will I have to maintain short hair throughout my time in the Navy or can I go with the stereotype of being a long-haired, Marine-hatin' bearded sailor that swears like there's no tomorrow? :elvis: This is serious yet at the same time its not; I'm aware that there's a grooming standard and the military takes it quite seriously so yeah...

In Texas, they shoot wolves, and don't much respect em! Your RDC's will ensure hair cuts are performed on a regular basis.

So why did you ask the first question? Read the Navy regulations below:

Yes 1/2 wolf, or at least I resemble the charecteristics of a wolf when it comes down to my follicles. And yes, I actually took the time to read the NAVUNIMAN if thats the right acronym for it; the sideburns is going to impact me the most :elvis: because I always had mines taped down to my jaw not thick but like the skinny version in hopes of having a goatee (which will not be tolerated according to uniform standards :( )
But once again I reiterate that I am quite serious about this topic because due to my hair which grows like crabgrass and weeds, I need to see a barber at least once every 3-4 days to shape my hairline and all that and nobody wants to be a thorn in a senior officer's side because one can't abide by grooming standards.

A smurf is a smurf, even if his hair does grow fast. There may be a little envy from those with thinner hairlines, but I cannot imagine any additional respect being given for mere hair length. If anything, I would think you'll get less respect if you truly do fail to comply with regulations.
Your hair will be cut several times while at RTC and your sideburns will be nowhere near your jaw. Your daily morning shave will ensure your sideburns do not grow longer than they should. In the unlikely event it becomes necessary to maintain grooming standards with your hair then you will need a fellow recruit to assist you with staying within standards or possibly visit the barber more often than the rest of the recruits. But even if your hair does grown extraordinarily fast and doesn't get cut, everyone will still know your training status because the RTC uniform is different during different phases of training.
Back during my day....I remember getting my hair cut once a week, we would "March" over together, obtain our "cut", along with the other companies that were to graduate the same date as us.....upon completing the "cut" we would then March over to the Supply House (place where you get supplies) and pick up our new "Uniform" material.
This material would either be the "Booger" Gree belt, White "Leg-Ons", White Belt, etc. For each week that you "Successfully" complete you acquired something new to represent that you were still a "RICKY"....then your company as a whole would also acquire a New Guide-On (Flag) to carry, along with the three or more that you earned during "Training" exercises....so you will be "Slim, Trim and in Reg.'s"!
Enjoy the Life, just don't get caught "Ricky Boxing".
...just don't get caught "Ricky Boxing".
ha ha ha That is too funny!
Not as bad as "Ricky Fishing"
"Ricky ninja" .... *shifty eyes*
oh, remember "ricky heaven" does not exist... I still remember longing for that taco bell.
We never got leg-ons (my grandfather asked me about that in his letters to me) we did get white belts at the end.
That is all - bye
Don't get caught with that either....."Ricky Ninja"

M1938 Canvas Leggings ("Laces out, hooks back, buckles forward.")
M1956 Web Pistol Belt ("P#$$y to the left.")
OD for new recruits, "service" white for senior recruits, "parade white" for graduation.
On a serious note... before I return to denying that I was the "Ricky Ninja" or the guy who taught the other "Ricky Ninjas" how to strike (remember we... I mean the "Ricky Ninja" only strikes at night... Sleep well)
Okay seriously, I grow facial hair pretty damn quick. I shaved every night and every morning... well at least every morning. I shaved before my watch too, and I always volunteered for watch because I was one of the few guys who never made log errors (or knew how to fix them) and mastered recruit handwriting. (see note below) Anyway, I had the 0400 to 0600 ( I think thats what it was) night security watch, the one in which we greet the RDCS when they return, and I shaved before hand per instructions from my RDC. I am walking to an office on my ship (barracks) right be lunch and a petty officer stops me. Brings me in front his office.
This petty officer proceded to yell at me for not being clean sahved, He asked me when I shaved last, I told him the truth. He thought it was BS. He went into his office, fetched someone else. They both come out and look at me. Please note, again, this was right before lunch, I had a five o'clock shadow already. They proceded to instruct me on the proper grooming edicate... and my favorite part, was:
First PO1: What training day are you on?
Second PO2 (before I can answer): Look at his hair, he has to be past 3-1.
First PO1: Has to be, he doesn't have that deer in the headlights look.
I had to stop myself form smiling.
But the moral is: expect shit if you are slightly off in your appearance. Let me say that again expect shit if you are Slightly off in appearance. Make sure you metal to metal, you gig-line is good, your creases are fully ironed so that they can draw blood if you rub them, and that you shave.
I learned to find time while waiting around to go and shave a second time in the day.
Its 0920 right now, I have shaved twice today...
Remember behave or the "Ricky Ninja" will find you.
note: my handwriting sucks.... the fact I mastered recruit handwriting better than most of my division made want to cry. Second our RDCs did a lecture on the log book twice, and the flipping templates are on the bulkhead above the log books, seriously how can you mess it up. Oh, and when you do your weapons turn over, make sure you don't lean on the scuttlebutt, that can be a hit.
Quick question....how can you be in RDC and on the web?
have things really changed that much?

He's not an RDC, rather an MA and already graduated RTC bootcamp.

We had one guy in my recruit company that had serious five-o'clock shadow by lunch time. He had special permission from the Commander to shave right after lunch.
