Valentines day is approaching. Anyone suprising a loved one or have anything exciting planned? I wish we got off for this holiday. Its probably the only holiday where you spend tons of money and get nothing off.

HM2,

Well if you get nothing off, you must not be doing things correctly! Did you ever consider that? Besides you don't need to spend alot of money...it's not how much you spend, but rather how much thought and effort you put into whatever it is you do. Some ladies would just be happy if you made them a nice candle light dinner, maybe a candle lit bubble bath and some rose petals on the bed. Girls do like romance you know...not necessarily monetary things..

I can't believe I am giving romantic advice on here, but geez it's the truth. Don't believe ask some of these guys on here who've been married a while....

For me, I am just happy if my husband doesn't have to work overtime, and comes home at a decent hour to spend time with me. You can't have everything and should be greatful for what you do have!

yeah, Valentine's Day...blah...it's just another one of those things that makes a man spend money on frilly crap that the wife don't need......J/K

I remember this one time when i was deployed and i forgot to send somthing to the wife for Valentine's Day (since the 8th and 12th are also special days). Man i was in the dog house for the rest of the deployment and then realized the error of my ways and spent my entire deployment allowance attempting to make up for it. Not 2 good!

So this year the wife gets the standard, CHOCOLATE! Why you ask, because she like anything chocolate and anything else would put me in the dog house.

I can't remeber the last time I got something on Valentines day or any holiday to be exact! Hmm pretty bad huh. I guess I am just one who is okay with nothing getting anything but would be happy to get something.

Happy Valentines Day All!

Sometimes I forget what I have and the things and peopleI have around me that I take for granted. I am thankful for the freedoms I have and the ability to love and have someone who loves me just the way I am. Too often, I don't look at the other side of what others lives are like. Here is a young man who digs through garbage everyday looking for a piece of plastic or can to recycle so he can eat. The next photo is where he lives.

52 of Life's Lessons

1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.

2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.

3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.

4. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

5. Pay off your credit cards every month.

6. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.

8. It's OK to get angry with God. He can take it.

9. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.

10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.

11. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.

12. It's OK to let your children see you cry.

13. Don't compare your life to others'. You have no idea what their journey is all about.

14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.

15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don't worry; God never blinks.

16. Life is too short for long pity parties. Get busy living, or get busy dying.

17. You can get through anything if you stay put in today.

18. A writer writes. If you want to be a writer, write.

19. It's never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else.

20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer.

21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie.

Don't save it for a specialoccasion. Today is special.

22. Over prepare, then go with the flow.

23. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple.

24. The most importantorgan is the brain.

25. No one is in charge of your happiness except you.

26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words: "In five years, will this matter?"

27. Always choose life.

28. Forgive everyone foreverything.

29. What other people think of you is none of your business.

30. Time heals almost everything. Give time time.

31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.

32. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends will. Stay in touch.

33. Believe in miracles.

34. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn't do.

35. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.

36. Growing old beats the alternative! -- dying young.

37. Your children get only one childhood. Make it memorable.

38. Read the Psalms. They cover every human emotion.

39. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.

40. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back.

41. Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.

42. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.

43. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.

44. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.

45. The best is yet to come.

46. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.

47. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.

48. If you don't ask, you don't get.

49. Yield.

50. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift.

51.You must be the change you wish to see in the world.

52. PEACE does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work.

It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart.

Happy Valentine's Day to all of you

We don't plan much around here for the holiday - but I did get flowers last night andI got Roba funny card and a stuffed hedgehog as a gag gift, which he liked.

When you been married as long as we have it is hard to find things that would be a surprise. So we don't try to surprise each other.

Hope everyone enjoys their day

Leave it to Doc purdue, the peace maker. The 52 reasons is right. Thanks Doc for your 2 cents. What a mediator for army guy. I got my wife a card full of scratch offs and lottery tickets. And continued to treather with respect. Then a kiss and "I love You" as I was leaving for work. Simple and meaningful

My marriage is a product of a Corps School romance. We were instructors, not students. Been married 22 years now. We were off work yesterday due to the Valentine's Day storm. I gave her flowers, a card, and I cooked breakfast for her. She is one lucky woman.

I was at the Lakes from 1984-1987. I came from a DDG as the Baby Doc where I spent the winter of 1984 off the coast of Iran and Iraq during that squabble. I got to GLakes and that first winter the wind chill got down to 86 below zero one day. It warmed to 30 below the next day. I visited there in January of 2000 while I was stationed at BUMED. I was from Education and Training and the billets man from the Force's office went with me. We went to promote the medical NEC's because of all the empty C school seats. I had forgotten what cold was until I went back to Great Lakes. I guess I'm talking about the weather because I'm typing this between sets of sit ups and crunches freezing my ass off. It is cold in D.C. this morning.

I got married there and my 2 kids were born there. My wife was an AVT. She got out at 13 years to spend more time with the kids. It paid off. They went on to become captains of their respective high school sports teams and my daughter graduates from Mary Washington this May. My son finished his first year of college but is putting school on hold. He is assistant manager of a fitness center making more money than I am.

I left in '87 for IDC school.
