The article in the 12 February 07 Navy Times just makes me sick! Doesnt anyone in a Command position understand that there will be more mental health casualties than physical injuries? We are going to need resources in a quantity that we never dreamed of in the past.Why cant the Navy Medical Department or the CNO make it an absolute policy to provide any mental health help needed when the VA rejects, stalls or delays a request for help that may be related to suicide? I hope the inspector general investigates every aspect of this tragic loss and does not try to gloss it over or diffuse the blame. Maybe the surgeon general could notify the VA that if they cant handle it the Navy can. :(
