The U.S. State Department, Diplomatic Security Service is looking to hire "Security Protective Specialists." The idea is to start phasing out the contractors as the press has made the security contractors (Blackwater, Triple Canopy, Dyncorp) look like thugs and mercenaries. It invloves doing Protective Security Details for U.S. Diplomats in places like Afghanistan and Iraq. It's a temporary position minimum of 13 months- max of 5 years. It's a good experience for FMF types that want to be cops and need some experience with a law enforcement agency. (or maybe just want to make some money.) This is not a law enforcement position, but you would get a security clearance and work for a law enforcement agency doing challenging, dangerous stuff.
The starting pay ranges between $52-64K. Tack on a 70% post differential and danger pay (Iraq and Afghanistan) to $52K and you get $88k. Then you get overtime. How much is up to you, but I know agents that are getting 80 hours every two weeks. I'm not sure, but I think overtime is time and a half. If you're married or have kids you also get Involuntary Separate Maintenence Allowace, which ranges from $1100-1500 a month tax free. So you could be making better than $100k a year.
