Hey everyone, Thank you so much for all of the information that is posted on this site. If it wasn't for this forum I would not have known how to negotiate my contract with my job classifier at MEPS or half of what I know now about the HM rate. This website has become a very valuable resource.
Well I finished MEPS today and enlisted in the Navy Reserves as a HMFM. Which is the rate name for FMF Corpsman. I was able to get E3 because of college credits and I got a $20,000 signing bonus. Just as a heads up, HM no longer has a bonus (but then again if your going into it for the money you should pick another career than the military). Only HMFM has the $20,000 bonus right now.
So I know the question has been answered before but just to state it again, Yes you can get FMF guaranteed in the Navy Reserves, because I did it today. I had to ask specifically for it but I did get it. Also I do not ship out untill 20100203 which is 357 days away, that was the soonest they could get me sent to basic training. So thanks again everyone you have helped me start my Navy career with a good contract. Now it is my turn to hold up my end of the bargain! I can't wait. - DEP Recruit Sisley

Congratulations:

HMFM never heard of it, at first I thought you were referring to a fireman!
Reserves is the only way to get FMTB (the training) on your enlistment contract. Active Duty cannot.
FMF is where you serve, Fleet Marine Force.
HM is the rate for Corpsman.
The Corpsman rate is manned at 100%, that is why the delay in shipping out and probably why the Bonus has or is going away. Study your DEP-PQS (http://www.corpsman.com/recruiting-info/delayed-entry-program-dep-success-accelerator/) and the START (http://www.corpsman.com/recruiting-info/official-delayed-entry-program-guide/) guide.

Thanks 8404 for the warm welcome. When I first talked to my job classifier and told him that I wanted to be a HM he put me down for one job. Immediately following I told him I wanted to go to FMTB. He got a little aggravated and told me that I should have said that at the beginning because in the computer it is listed as a different rate for the Navy Reserves, called HMFM. Apparently there is a separate amount of HM rates from HMFM rates available at any given time. So he had to cancel HM and switch it to HMFM. In my contract it outlined what this meant and clarified everything by showing my guarantee as A school and FMTB. Thanks again 8404 - DEP Recruit Sisley

i guessing the FM stands for field medic?

...because in the computer...

It more in likely has to do with a unique field name, within the MEPs relational database and their way of separating them for unknown reasons. It may be due to Reserves, bonus or the only way to guarantee FMTB for a Reserve enlistment contract.

Corpsman are field medics, by way of the NEC HM-8404 Field Medical Service Technician, which is awarded upon completion of FMTB! There is only one rate for Corpsman and that is HM!

Upon graduation from NHCS, your title and rank are represented as HR, HA, HN & HM3, HM2, HM1, HMC, HMCS etc ...
There are no HRFM, HAFM, HNFM, HMFM3, HMFM2, HMFM2 in the U.S. Navy.

Now I think he is going to ask me what HMFIC stands for .... Know that it is not, an official Navy rate or rank. :D

Welcome to corpsman.com, DEP Recruit Sisley,

More than likely, it's just a classification in the computer to differentiate between Active Duty HM contracts (who aren't guarenteed FMF) and Reserve Component HM contracts (who can get FMF guarenteed) - I'm not in the office today, so I can't confirm that with the recruiters, but I'll double check next week.

8404 - may not be official, but definitely well used...

Thanks again 8404 and Indy. Again if it wasn't for you guys, and the postings that you have made on this site, I would have been completely in the dark going in to MEPS.
