Orders after FMTB

When your completing FMTB, how are your orders handled? Do you fill out a dream sheet similar to the one in NHCS, or do you just go where ever you are needed?

And as a HM fresh out of FMTB, are they going to deploy you straight to the war zones like Afghanistan or Iraq, or do you get some time on a marine base to ease into things?

At NHCS, you will receive your orders which will depict 'where' you'll be going. If your orders are to FMTB, your orders will also depict 'where' you will be stationed after FMTB. FMTB doesn't have anything to do with your orders.

I believe you are sent to FMTB, prior to deploying to Iraq and Afghanistan. There really isn't any, "easing into things", as I know of one Sailor who went to RTC, FMTB, Camp Lejeune and deployed to Iraq. This happened at or around his one year mark from the date of enlisting into the Navy!

no such deal as 'easing into things,' you hit the ground running...as soon as you graduate from FMTB, and report to your next command, they may very well be at the tail end of a routine training cycle and ready to deploy that next month. On the ship, we had personnel reporting to us a week prior to deployment. It all really depends on what commands needs bodies, and what their mission is.

I know when I left NHCS (some 30+ years ago), I had orders to Field Medical School and they already depicted that I would end up at First MAW (then at Iwakuni MCAS) after Camp Pendleton.
