Okay, so me and a friend of mine are both a bit into poetry. For those of you who think poetry makes one less masculine, I apoligize. So back to this friend, she and I have been sending military related poetry back and forth and this was my last one. Some people have said its good but since it's about FMF corpsmen I wanted to hear the opinons of an FMF corpsman. Here 'tis:
My name tag may say US Navy
But I'm still with the first to fight
I may not have gone to Parris Island
But my hair is still high and tight
I wake early in the morning
Before the first sun's light
And I didn't go to bed till late
Itreated my Marines all night
I followthem out on patrols
And that early PT run
I partied withthem in thebarracks
Because I too enjoy some fun
Whenthey pissed off that bartender
I was there to drivethem back
Whenthier shoulders got sore inFallujah
I helped shoulderthier heavy pack
I love every part of my job
I hope to do it more
Because I am one of America's finest
A "Doc" in the US Marine Corps
So before anyone tells me
I'm a wannabe or a never-was
I joined the Navy but became a Marine
Because that's what a good Corpsman does

Nice job man. Truely nice. I write on occassion myself. I might have lost everything on my hard drive and am very upset about that, so I might start my new collection with this one.

Good stuff, man. Keep it up and stay motivated!!!!!!!!!!!
Outstanding work. The last part reminded me of something that happened last week. The XO and the Four were talking about berthing assignments, which sparked a loud "F$#king Navy" from the XO. Later, he said to me "Doc, I know you heard that. I hope you know I was talking about the "other" Navy. I don't really consider you Navy." Complement?

It sure as hell is a compliment. I used to get the same thing when serving with 1/14. My SGT MAJ used to love watching me take crap as the Navy would walk out of reg's etc..
One SN one time blew me off when I stopped him to correct him, I was called to his CMC's office because I "LIT" him up.. When I explained the situation with my SGT MAJ behind me (I don't think the CMC expected that) and the SGT MAJ's response to him was.. "I STAND BY MY SNCO!" I wasn't called Chief, but SNCO.. I knew right then and there I had arrived..
;-)
after we left, I corrected him and said.. "CALL ME CHIEF DAMN IT!", but thanks!
Da-Chief out..

It's really nice to know you all have enjoyed it. I was kinda nervous posting it on here but my friend insisted I do it. Thanks for the support guys.
Semper Fi,

Thanks Chief. It's strange the position I find myself in at times. I take pride in being different than the average Corpsman. I'm working on a PhD right now...and I'm asked every day why I don't pursue a commission...but I honestly like what I'm doing. I feel the the skills the Marine Corps has blessed me with (the current Commandant is all about getting Corpsmen trained...and is footing the bill for OEMS which is a very expensive course) are the most important skills a Corpsman could possess. Anyway...sometimes it's hard to both be proud of being a Sailor (and therefore superior to the Marines...you know...interservice rivalry) and being proud of being an FMF Corpsman...and therefore being better than other Corpsmen.

Psyphr,
When your done with your PHD, you will have to change your name to "Doctor-Doc"
;-)
Let us know how your progressing. I agree with you about the commission thing. I was offered a opportunity a while back to do something with a commission, turned it down.
I had my "Goals", and one of them was to be a CPO, I had not yet attained that, so I turned it down.
Now some would say "Are you nuts?
But I always remember the LT I worked with who told me the "1" thing he wished he had done was made CPO before he had gotten his commission. He was commissioned as a HM1. Nothing to look down on mind you, just our own set of life priorities.
I never looked back and am so damn proud to be retiring as a HMC. I set out on a goal 23 years ago and achieved it.
Thanks all and good luck!! Let's get some more motivating posts out here!

Hey everyone, it's been awhile. Was watching Flags of Our Fathers (great movie) and the opening scene of Doc running across the beaches in his dreams always gets my poetic thoughts going. By the end of the movie I had started this and tonight I just put the finishing touches on it.
My eyes are darting to every nearby sound
The Hueys circling overhead and the Marines on the ground
The deep sounding AK, the whistle of rockets
And the medical supplies rustling around in my pockets
I’m not here for oil, I honestly don’t give a damn
About the oil consumption of George Bush and Uncle Sam
The platoon of men I dedicate my adrenaline, sweat, blood and tears
The platoon of men I share with my dreams hopes and fears
These guys are my family, we’re closer than brothers
And I am here to get them home to their wives and their mothers
Through the memories we build and the hardships we share
They know that when they call for a corpsman, I’ll always be there
I like poetry as well and have written a lot myself throughout the years.
I liked it too, and found it to be a good vision from your experience.
I, though, never wore my hair "high and tight" nor did I go Marine Corps Regs. Don't get me wrong ... I absolutely LOVED being assigned with the marines ... but I loved my Navy and being a sailor, too. Give me a choice of duty though and I'd go to the green side.
Keep writing. It helps not only the head to unravel your soul, but it's good therapy for the healing of things in one's life.

I am a small precious child
my dad has been sent to fight,
the only place I'll see his face
is in my my dreams at night.
He'll be gone to many days,
for my young mind to keep track.
I may be sad but I'm proud
My daddy's got your back.
I am a caring mother
my son has gone to war,
my mind is filled with worries,
that I have never known,
everyday I try to keep my
thoughts from turning black.
I may be scared, but I am proud,
My son has got your back.
I am a strong loving wife,
with a husband soon to go.
There are times I am terrified
in a way most never know.
I bite my lips and force a smile.
As I watch my husband pack,
MY heart may break, but I am proud
My husband has got your back.
I am a United States Navy Corpsman,
Serving proudly, standing tall.
I fight for freedom, yours and mine
By answering this call,
I do my job knowing
thanks is just not enough.
So say a prayer, that I'll come back
It's me who's got your back....
