Hey all, I just received orders to NNMC with a detachment to the USNS Comfort. I leave NHCS a couple weeks after they deploy, I was just hoping and curious whether or not I will completely miss that deployment or maybe by some slim chance I will get to go, just seeking the advice/knowledge of the Cheifs and everyone else here, Thanks alot everyone.

This was the procedure followed for the USS Enterprise. It may be different for a hospital ship.

If your ship has deployed (sailed), you will report to the TPU unit of your ship. This is a temporary holding unit, whereby you will be given work details!

TPU staff will communicate with the ship about your arrival. One of two things can happen:

You will be given transportation to the nearest port the ship is located and join the crew.
Remain in TPU until the ship returns.

I would think you would fly to meet the ship, but it's ultimately up to the ship. Following is their website.

Be sure to check out the Welcome Aboard Package (http://www.med.navy.mil/sites/usnscomfort/Pages/ContinuingPromise2009.aspx) Also note the "required" NKO training that has been outlined.

I think that you'll miss this one actually and here's why - what do your orders specifically say? More than likely I'm guessing that your orders assign you to NNMC, where you'll be assigned to augment the platform that is the USNS Comfort. The Comfort is manned by a Civilian Mariner crew, which is augmented by folks from the NNMC and various other places. It's very likely the case that they have all the augment they need for this deployment, and also very unlikely that they would spend the extra money needed for you to leave NNMC and fly out to meet the ship somewhere (only really a possibility if you have some critical skill set or NEC that is quickly needed). Thus I'd double check the orders with regard to ultimate duty station, and follow the procedures given when reporting aboard. Ultimately I have a feeling that you'll be right in line for the next deployment aboard the Comfort.
