Okay, ive been looking around on different referrence sites, asked other people but i cant find out what special assignmens i can be on. My dream was to be a medic for the SEALs but was quickly shot down because my vision (that hurt pretty deep actually) but i want something more than to be deployed with regular marines but if i have o thats ok. i want to know if theres anything, special military police units, recon units, anything that puts me in something than regular infantry. Does anybody know about different and special assignments where corpsman are needed?

THere's Fleet Marine Force Reconaissance Corpsman for going FMF with a Recon Battalion/Force Recon unit but if your vision is what disqualified for SEALS then it might affect you when you go for FMF Recon because they too are special ops. Other than that I'm not too sure about other special assignments, although I've seen some cool billets for Search & Seizure duty and HMs can apply to it.

What about Search and Rescue? Probably one of the coolest jobs I have personally seen around the Navy. These guys are a tight knit community and they have done some REALLY cool things around Oak Harbor from rescuing people off mountains to kayakers stuck at sea to some of the better choice in deployments.

What's your definition of 'special assignments'? Are you looking exclusively at special warfare programs, ie. SEALS, RECON, Dive, EOD etc? or different communities like SAR, Marines, Subs, Surface, Air etc?

Each job has its own characteristics that make it special - all depends on what you make of it.

As Indy said, 'special' is in the eye of the beholder. Even the basic HM has the opportunity to do some pretty fun stuff or get a specific job and do that (like search and rescue/inflight medicine, recon, dive) or go over to spec ops (since they dont have HMs for them anymore).

Every new kid wants to be the badass, but the reality is even the 'badass' jobs have admin blah days..coming into the Navy thinking you're going to run around the desert saving people all day is funny. Come in as a basic HM, do a shore tour and get your head in the game and then go from there is my advice.
