I am interested in being onboard a destroyer or a carrier but I wanted to know if onboard these or most navy ships besides submarines are there enough bunks for everyone on board to have their own...or do you sleep in shifts as you work...?
Here is a quote from an earlier post! It hasn't changed ...
The Odds of you getting a ship out of Corps School are about 1%. Sorry to tell you that, but its the fact.
I can tell you in the 3 years I was at NHCS and worked in personnel, out of the "THOUSANDS" of students who went through, I only placed "3" Students on Ships.. only "3"...
So there are your odds..
;-)
Good Luck

See some of my other posts around the forums about getting orders to a ship - the opportunity is available, but very very limited. If you are fortunate enough to receive orders to a ship, the berthing arrangements on surface combatants is such that everyone has their own rack. The only community that still practices hotracking are the submarines due to lack of physical space. All surface ships are large enough for all crew members to have their own rack.
As an HM, you will have your own rack on ANY Naval vessel, even on a sub, there is only 2 enlisted people that get their own, the CMC/SEL and the HM.
I seriously didn't know that about HMs and submarines. Cool, thanks Poolzer. Learn something new everyday.
when i first was assigned to weapons plt on the rock i had my own cubicle .i was only an HN and it pissed all the Marine NCO's off.i had to provide my men privacy and hold sickcall.
it worked for me

On a carrier or amphib ship, Medical is assigned usually to berthing with another department like Supply; Admin; Yeoman.
I was taught to spread out my Corpsman in berthing in case of an emergency such as fire, explosion or other unforseen problems.
