Doc Garza, congratulations on your orders. I went there as an HM2, came from a ship like you, and had a great tour. I left in '87 so I have no recent info. My advice though is to enjoy it. I felt it was an honor to be the first influence in the medical future of a new Corpsman. Today in retirement I still teach. Not only will you touch the lives of your students but in turn the lives of the Sailors and Marines that are touched by them. Powerful stuff.
I'm sure you know that Da Chief of this web site is on staff there and can provide current information.

Will you keep us updated on the current changes? I heard rumors that the entire school is now computer based! I don't know how I feel about that. When I went threw they were only having one class use the computer based method. Those accepted for the computer based training had to meet certain criteria as well (i.e. prior medical education or degree). Do you have any info on this?

Corps School is self paced to an extent with it averaging to one test a week, but you can accelerate and usually expected to get ahead. We have Handbooks for each divisions material. These have homework sheets and example sheets included aswell.
Computers are a big part of the learning cycle. They have a reservist website that is somewhat interactive and you can take small quizes with each section. I found this to be very useful. The next are powerpoints that are compiles with the course material and various pictures included. Personally, I stayed away from them. Last but certainly the most valuable resource... LTG's. These are the instructor books and all of the test questions are pulled from them.
Labs are included, but the only grip I could possibly have is that you only can do it once and you don't really get practice any other time.
Well, thats Corps School in a nutshell for you. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions HM2. I am currently in clinicals and could probably answer most of them from a student aspect.

Oh well thanks for the info. Is it possible to get that reserve website that you speak of? That might be a valuable tool for those taking an exam for review purposes.
Did you happen to bump into HM1 Dela Roca?

Thank you very much for the info on Corps School now from a students perspective. That does sound very different, when I went through. I do hope to change and lead a new breed of Corpsman who are greatly needed in todays operational status. This is where it all starts. I hear by the year 12009 or 2010 Corps School will be moved down to San Antonio, TX and will be a joint command with the Army and Air Force. Have any of the instructors talked about this or has any such word been passed. Thank you...

HM1 Delaroca is now HMC Delaroca and I know him well :) He is now in Co-op learning but he was an Echo Instructor (one of mine) before he switched. In a few months, he will be moving to Coronado for Recon.
DocGarza, unfortunately the reservist website is something that no one has to my knowledge. It remains something that stays on the CRC Computers :(

Dela Roca made Chief? Wow, what a motivator! I need to get into contact with him. That means Chief is 7 yrs active duty!
Garza,
Who the hell said you could leave 2dMAW?!? That chit never crossed my desk...maybe you should come see me Monday morning.
Congratulations on being selected for Instructor duty at HM 'A' School! I can't think of a better choice. You have a ton of experience to take to the classroom and share with the young Sailors that will be the future heroes of Navy Medicine.
Good luck and stay in touch.

That's right Kamon, 7 years, not special forces either, just busted his ass each and every year and studied his ass off for advancment.
This is why I always tell you if they make "1" person, why can't that person be you?
