Chief,

Talking about the President Obama's proposed pay raise. First, I am A/D so I am being very conservative in what I am saying.
One thing I have never like is that it is a percentage raise. So if you are an 0-6 who has been in 20 years the amount in $ of a raise you receive is HUGE compared to an E-4 who has 6 years. So the people who are receiving the biggest pay raise are the ones complaining. But as you stated in your netcast, the lower enlisted really don't have a voice in this.
Another thing, isn't it really early for the President to propose a pay raise for the calender year?
The past 10 years have been steps towards closing the pay difference between the civilian sector. With the economy the way it is and the retention rate the military is having due to the economy it really takes away the military members ability to fight for pay raises and SRB's. As I'm sure you saw the military just dropped or completely took away SRB's for over 400 rates. The only people getting big money is nukes and special ops.
So if you think about big picture, why would you give a big pay raise when you have people fighting to get in and stay in? Congress passed the minimum 2.9% and now we have officers complaining when they aren't getting MORE than that.
I would love a 3.5-9% increase like we have been seeing, but a 2.9% isn't something I going to raise a fuss over.
One thing I have really enjoyed about being in the military is pay raises. I don't think I have gone 6 months straight without getting a pay raise since I joined. Whether it be the calender year, me reaching time in rate, or advancing. Keep them coming!

The civilian sector has been received 1 and 2 percenter raises for quite awhile now. It has been my experience that pay raises are always done as a percentage. I feel for ya ....
