My son is graduating from fmtb west and reporting to nas fallon (clinic) which is a branch of nas lemoore naval hospital.(his orders simply state nas fallon)
what are his chances of being able to go ai which he wants.
i know that he wants marine infantry.
(i do not know anything about deployments as what type are offered and how often)
this being his first duty station is considered shore duty (i believe and will be for 3 years?) during which time he will be able to go on deployments as they are posted?
I would like to get information together to present to him after his graduation just to let him know what is ahead he is in for 5 year enlistment.
Thanks!
Dan

Dan,

His best bet when he checks in to talk with both the command career counselor and the manpower department and let them know that he is interested in volunteering for the next available IA mission or deployment. Once he checks in, he'll know which 'platform' that he's being assigned to as well which should provide him with an idea of if that particular platform is going to be deployed as well.

Hospitals and clinics don't have a specific deployment schedule unto themselves, but rathe help supply folks to fill billets with their platform, or as needs require for IA missions. For example, you may have a few months go by where no-one leaves, and then all of a sudden, the following month, they may snag 10 people to go various places. It really all depends on the requirements of the moment passed down to that command by Big Navy.
