Da Chief is the man! Thank you brother for getting this site up for all to share. Da Chief knows me personally and knows that I am a man of few words, but I thought I would come on here and let all Corpsmen, past and present, know this; the Hospital Corps is in great hands! We have brothers and sisters out there from the Chief ranks on down, who are making sure our storied history and legacy will continue to live on. I am honored to have served with those who are now retired and I am equally as honored to be serving with those still on active duty as a member of the Hospital Corps!

I have met quite a few vets over the years that have served from Viet Nam to the present. When the discussion turns to what did you do, I just state "I served as a Navy Corpsman". In all cases I have had the response of " Man, am I glad to me you, DOC. Thank you for being there for us and for what you did." When some one mistakingly states "Oh, you were a medic" I usually don't have to explain the difference because some one will speak up and say " He's different, he's DOC. There is no comparison". I have even had Army guys tell me "I heard you corpsmen were really hammered by the VC and you still did a hell of a job. Thanks for being there."
I am so glad that you mentioned our history and our legacy. It is that reaction that I get from other vets that lets me know that ,as corpsmen, we are highly praised by not only the Navy and Marines, but other services as well. I was a Clinical Pharmacist before I retired. When I would mention to a physician that I had been a corpsman, most of the older ones would react the same as the vets. We are the best and we need to make sure that legacy continues. Thank you for your post. We need to be reminded some times. Ross

Even though I dont post here very often I always stop in to see how the Corps is holding up.And I gotta agree the site is a "treasure chest"of information. Its good to know that the Hospital Corps still has the pride and honor it had 35 yrs ago.And its good to know that their is a site here for my fellow Corpsman.Semper Fidelis
