I knew he was coming home within in the week and the kids and I planned to be in Hawaii on May 3 and were expecting him sometime after.

I rec'd email from the FRO today that they will arrive 5/2!!! I called Northwest and explained the situation; they were kind enough to change the flight for us at NO charge...yay! So, we will arrive 5/1 and he will arrive 5/2 :) He thinks we are arriving 5/3 and I'm inclined to leave it as is and have it be a surprise when he walks off the plane...whaddya think?

Awwwwww . . . I'm usually not one for surprises BUT "the Romantic" in me can't help thinking how sweet a surprise it would be

The surprise sounds nice, but remember too that he needs time to readjust. It is possible he will go through a period of culture clash when he gets home.

He has certain ideas and expectations of the family reunion and what he is going to do when he gets back to the world.

You have certain ideas and expectations of the family reunion and what he is going to do when he gets back to the world.

Chances are your two sets of ideas and expectations will not align perfectly. Plus jet-lag, climate shift, and the military will have their own set of hoops to jump through and obligations for him. And since its a surprise he may have promised/planned something with his buddies.

Go for the surprise but have an abundance of patience, understanding and flexibility too.

All along I've been telling him I would be so mad if he arrived before us and he kept assuring me it was no big deal, he would just pick us up. We've been to this dance twice before but this will be the first time my kids will remember daddy "coming home". If it weren't for them I'd just be going on Sunday and carry on.

He's coming home ADVON with no one that he even knows :( and they are on a 96 so no obligations. I told him I already set up our neighbor to pick him up, etc. I have tried before to surprise him but it is so difficult to put a chit through the command without him ;)

I just hope we don't have to drive down the middle of the road for the first 3 months he is home like last time...didnt' want to be near the shoulder for fear of IED :(

I'm playing the Navy's favorite game and they are winning. Now we are pushed back AT LEAST 24 hours, but of course that could change so "continue to check your email for updates". Oy, just glad we wil be in the air on the way back to paradise tomorrow.

Yeah, hurry up and wait. That's typically how it works with everything; hurry up and wait to get into housing, hurry up and wait on $$ you are supposed to be getting, hurry up and wait while your husband is on his way home from deployment....blah blah blah!

We are back in Hawaii and still waiting, LOL! Rec'd email Saturday AM HST that he was in Turkey, then Germany and on to Baltimore. They have to be in Baltimore by 6am on Sunday AM to make the flight back to Hawaii..puhleeeeezze make that flight, I can't fend off my kids much longer!
