View Full Version : Marine Corps League
I want to give a shout-out to all my fellow 8404 docs (past, present and future) and especially those of whom which I served along side with from '82 to '84 in 3rd Bn/8th Marine Regt. As some of you may already know, the Marine Corps League http://www.mcldetachments.org/is always looking for new league members. But I suspect many don't know that FMF corpsman who served atleast one tour greenside, whether in peacetime or in time of conflict, are also eligible to join the Marine Corps League. As of a few years ago, the Marine Corps League now extends a full, active membership to all FMF/8404's who served with, or continues to serve with the Marines on PCS orders. The league accepts former FMF corpsman, active duty, reserve and retired, alike. You will need to provide a copy of your DD214 along with a $25 annual membership fee for review by the national committee prior to receiving your membership card. Your DD214 must reflect the dates and commands you served under with a Marine Corps unit in order to be selected.
The MCL is a social and civic organization which falls under and adheres to Marine Corps tradition and values. Local detachments are active in many ways in their respective communities in veterans' assistance, Marine Corps Toys for Tots program, Memorial Day and 4th of July events, etc. But equally important is the promotion of brotherhood among active duty, former active duty and retired Marines and FMF Corpsmen. Local detachments provide a venue to meet fellow Marines and Corpsmen who share a common bond and opportunities to serve your community and represent your detachment at any number of MCL sponsored events at state and national conventions.I'm not campaigning for new members in this post but, merely, making all of my brothers in the corps aware that the MCL exists in many communities in every state in the country.
I have found in my detachment in Quincy, MA to be always overflowing with pride, exhuberance and commraderie among its membership, and the stories shared amongst the membership are often incredible... incredibly gut-wrenching, incredibly awe-inspiring or just incredibly funny. It's a great place to meet people if you're new in town and you might find that to be just what you need to improve the quality of your life as it stands today. Check it out!
Semper Fi and Godspeed!

Uhh Rah Doc,
They finally give us full membership eh? I used to assist with the League in CA with the "Young Marines" program. I was told then that HM's still didn't have full membership at the time but they were trying to change it.
Glad to hear it. Once retired.. I will be joining the group up here in GLAKES..

Come on....an old salt like you retire? Never!!;)
Long time waiting... Yes, they finally gave us FULL membership. Can't say why it took as long as it did to push the proposal through but... At long last, justice is served.
Also, I've been looking for HMCM Dawkins who was the CMC of 2nd Mar Div back in '83/84. I'm sure he's retired now. If anyone here knows him or where he might be today, I'd appreciate the help locating him.

Iwas the first HM perm assigned to Saudi Arabia as a Medical Advisor with USMC TAFT team out of Jubail. I was given full membership for their MCL and still have the paperwork. I think every HM that has FMF tour join and support the MCL. Keeps our bond.

It is I the great mouth. You knew me as HM2 last name Lee. I bet that surprised a bunch of folks. I never got busted, but I sure argued my point enough times.
Of course you already knew that, having been the "victim" of the famous button push routine. I loved watching folks turn purple back then. I never got you purple, but I got ya redder than a rooster's azz after pecking a Habenero pepper!!
Hopefullly you think highly of mer for standing up for myself and my folks. BTW, I still chew gum and talk on the phone. Every time I do, I think of you. LOL, don't hate me man, oh ok put the knife down, uh oh wait......
Ah the memories...
So where are you now? Inquiring minds (well deranged any way) want to know.

Well yeah you probably were a great thorn in those already chief and all. I guess my issue with ya back then was you knew it all (well pretended pretty good). All old stuff heh? You're my brother man, wouldn't have it any other way. Just loved to pull your strings, so apologies from the past.
Yeah I'm always impressed when some one actually gets out and makes good. I've tried mamagement jobs, never again!
I then went into sales. I've done in home sales, probably the funniest thing I ever did, I also did route sales for a First aid and saftey supply company. The in home sales job was independant contract and was 12-16 hour days. It sucked!
The first aid gig got old when the customers complained about every item I put in their boxes in their plants. One lady asked me "Why do I need gauze pads in a first aid box?" My reply was "You don't, until some one starts bleeding!" I knew that day, two months into it, that I was going to call some one a moron very soon.
I'm now working for Lance Foods as a salesperson. It's straight commision on your own route. Top guys are pulling in around 50K working eight hours a day. Ya can't find that in sales anywhere!
I'm currently a relief driver, so I'm still salary and not great but well enough for here in west TN. Waiting on a route to open up here . Hours are 0630-1430 every day. Maybe a 1/2 hour on a Saturday sometimes.
I'm a grandfather now, and have the two boys here this week. I'm getting the grand daughter here next week. I live and die for them.
Today I rode with the Patriot Guard Riders to Milan TN. Army Chief Warrant Officer 3 Flanigan's family allowed us to attend. It was my first PGR mission, and I was overwhelmed. 16 riders (13 bikes 3 cagers) and we stood the line in his honor.
When it was over people came up to us and thanked us. We all teared up, because to us it was nothing more than an honor to be there, we were doing our duty.
Fortunately the UGLIES were not present. That's what the veteran riders were calling that group from Westboro Baptist church out of Kansas.
So New Mexico huh? How did that happen?I just spoke to a guy was in 251 with me. As far as HMs and DTS only saw one DT onboard USS Dwight DEisenhower.
SGT Larry Faulkner lives in Jackson MS, five hours from here. Talked to him last week. Other than you, nope nobody.
Look man, email and I'll get ya my phone number.puckmedic@yahoo.com (mailto:puckmedic@yahoo.com)
Any idea how to find Freddie King? Anyone know Freddie King? I need to find him.

Hey Puckman,
You can always come to Branson and sell timeshare. Best gig I have had to date. Have been doing it for two years this month, work about twenty hours a week and made about $72,000 last year. I grossed $13,000 last month and was just third in sales out of about 30 reps. I'm sure there are places around where you live you may want to check out. It's best to go to work for a privately owned resort rather than a corporate, they are much more forgiving.
