G'day All:bunny1:
My name is Pte.Shields, and iam in the Aussie Army (duh).
I gathered there is no International Theads here so i guess i should be the first.

First of all, it is great to find a website dedicated to Medics, AMEO's and Corpsmen from all around the world, too many sites dedicated to combat arm corps i rekon!.

Anyway, jst jist of Australian Medics and AMEOS (Aero-Medical Evacuation OperatorS...Airforce Medics) is essently a cross between that of an Advanced Life Support Operator, a Division 2 Enrolled Nurse and a million and one other jobs we are all used to.

As part of our Basic Medical Assistants Course (BMAC) we are introduced to Advanced First Aid and Life Support, Anatomy and Physiology (yes, i bet many people are screaming at the sight of those two words), plus clinical practises such as nursing, mental health and scene management.

All medics who complete the BMAC at the Army School Of Health (sadly where i remain at this point in time) are Qualified Division 2 Enrolled Nurses, so essently the Army pays for us to get a degree over our 10 month course..woohoo!

After leaving BMAC we are released into the big bad army for 12 months to build skills, either Working in a CSSB (Combat Service Support Battalion), an RAR RAP (Royal Australian Regiment Regimental Aid Post) or to a HSB (Health Service Battalion). After that 12 month stint we return to the Army School Of Health for a 14 week Advanced Medical Assistants Course (AMAC) and on completion of that we move to a specialised field, such as Army Aviation, Combat Search and Rescue, Army Nurse, Civilian Health Liason, Underwater Medical Specialist, Special Forces Patrol Medic or just your good on Medical Operator/Tech.

I hope over the coming week i can scounge up some of my old lessons to throw up on here to share the wealth of knowledge, in the mean time, if you have any questions on the Australian Army Medical Corps or just the Australian Defence Force, dont hesitate to ask :)

Thanks for the informative post about the different style of training - it's interesting to see what life is like in the military in other countries. Please feel free to post about your experiences as you move through the pipeline, I'm looking forward to learning more.
