May god have mercy on your soul.
they call this command the career killer because it makes most corpsman want out after their first enlistment.
I'm currently stationed here.
just dont let it get you down.

and and get used to playing around with things like this for a long time lol.

Last I heard HN, many would have loved orders to NMCSD or any command within the general geographical region.

they call this command the career killer

Attitude is everything and as in 'any' job, location or command, time spent their can become a nightmare if an attitude is demonstrated.

Don't allow yourself to become stagnant or listen to negative deck plate scuttlebutt. Ask yourself, what are you doing for:

the Command (are you performing over and above what is expected and have you become the 'go to Sailor' in your command?
the Community (are you volunteering your time off base to worthy organizations?)
College (are you enrolled and taking classes/courses?

There is always room for improvement and loads of things to work on besides electronic computer games. Exercise your mind, become involved and help your shipmates. As opposed to being a sheep and following those who have had bad experiences.

8404 is right. It's what you do there the makes the difference. Balboa was my first duty station, I got there as an HA. I was stationed there for 2 years (2006-2008) and it was the best command I have had yet. Not only is San Diego an amazing city, NMCSD offers sailors so many more opportunities than other commands. Balboa is huge, take advantage of what is around you. You'll encounter bad situations/people where ever you go - not only in the Navy but life in general. The way you handle those situations/people is what effects your outlook, trust me. For a while, when I was there, all I wanted to do was get out. But then I opened my eyes a little more and realized that there are FAR worse places I could be. When I left, all I wanted to do was go back (now, I do frequently to visit friends). Your resentment for this command will fade - sometimes you just have to take a step back and view the entire picture.

They say the same thing about Bethesda, and honestly I loved my time that I spent there. I learned a bunch, got an associates degree, went from e-1 to e-4 and came to my new command with knowledge and confidence.

The ones who always complained about the command are the ones that are still there as e-3 not getting anywhere in life.

I love working in big hospitals , no matter what anyone says. Do not listen to them because believe me, there are a lot worse places you can be.
