Hello,

I have always been interested in a medical career inmilitary.I first wanted to become a Marine but they didn't have anything in medicine except the FMF Corpsman but that was in the Navy. So now I am here and have acouple questions.

1) What is the ratio from people applying to become a FMF corpsman and those actualy becoming one.

2) Do the FMF Corpsman get any special pay?

3) Is anyone a FMF Recon Corpsman and if theycould please tell me what it took to become one.

Oh, and thanks for establishing this site. I am constantly learning more ways to prepare myself. Thanks!!!!

my response is to number 2 (two)

why in the hell, would you care about any kind of special pay?

You don't become a Corpsman because of any "special" pay.

you do it for one reason and one reason only, it's your calling.

if you even consider it because you think there is any "special" pay involved, let your grunts know it and see how long you'll last in the field. two to one odds it wouldn't be more than a week.

look for one of my other postings on here, then maybe you'll reconsider your "calling in life"

When Isaid "special pay" I ment if you could be trained as a scuba diver or as a para jumper that canget the special pay.I didn't mean it the way you think it was, I apologize for notbeing more detialed.

I am all for becoming a FMF Corpsman. Iam going to a high school specializing in medical studies that prepareme for medical school. Ihave to drive25 miles everday there and then 25 miles back. I have sacrificed most of my friends so I can go there. So what I'm saying is that I amNOT doing it for the money. I am sacrifing all this just so I can be there to help people. All in all, no one will stop me from becoming what I want to be.

If you want to go Recon, you need to be in top physical shape. You'll need to pass their Indoc course, usually includes the following:

Marine Corps PFT: pull-ups, curl-ups, 3 mile run, along with a 500 yd swim and you'll also have to complete a timed hike with a 50 lbs pack. I'm sure I could be forgetting some stuff, though I do know the above. I'll have to check with the people I know that are Recon to see. Then if you pass Indoc and get selected you'll go to the Recon pipline for additional medical training and Recon training.

I myself do not have the corporate knowledge concerning Recon community. I do however have the acquaintance of several whom we have been doing workups in preparation for deployment. On our next underway period, I will be sure to mention this site for them to peruse due to the frequently asked questions concerning this career field. Actually a FAQ page for the spec ops community would be a great addition here and a FAQ for the pipeline training.
